What does God deserve?

I believe that we humans should be benevolent in the name of benevolence itself. If one is being kind merely to avoid being punished or to receive a reward then the concept of benevolence is cheapened. True benevolence is a sacrifice. A willingness to look beyond petty squables and step forward in the name of kindness for the very sake of kindness itself and nothing more. I'm willing to forgive, but I will never forget.

To forget is to forgive. In the name of benevolence and kindness, who or what sets the standard for these, if there is no true standard then they are just concepts and if they are concepts then their definitions only depend on each individual. Maybe that's why there is a lack of integrity in the world today, no one wants an absolute standard to anything, it's like do what feels right to you and screw everything/body else. Today, it's do not apply your standard to me, I have the one that works best for me, you do as you desire and I'll do as I desire and to hell with the rest of the world. That is a lousy way for people to think and live but they do and yes I'll include some christians in that. Without a true standard this is the world we have and it will get much worse.

rev.j Wrote:I find the lack of integrity in humanity to be the most disturbing trend these days. Greed is glorified and true sacrifices in the name of benevolence are rare and far between. Greed will be the death of America. Greed destroys the family unit and thrusts a dagger into the back of your closest friends. Greed (selfishness), in my opinion, is diametrically opposed to benevolence.

Almost sounds like you agree with the Bible except you have no standard for benevolence. I agree with what you state except I would leave out in the name of benevolence.

I agree 100%. Its like saying that a person made a sacrifice by giving away a million dollars to charity, yet still has 20 billion in his bank account.

Hey you can get some good "visions and dreams" when you're hittin some good reefer. Combine that with a steadfast adherence to an ancient book and ... voila! Instant revelations from god!

The same fuckin' way you judge all of us for being heathens. Get off your damn high horse.

If I got on my high horse you would know it. I wish you were not a heathen and I wish you were a christian, that however is your decision to make and it's not for me to judge you for not making what I believe to be the correct decision.

Key word being "belief" they're are an unfathomable amount of religious people who want us to convert. Each with their own ethos, God and "proofs" MTost Ateists are freethinking people and go with evidence and reason. When given that We will convert. It really is that simple.

That however is not very likely to happen, But the emphasis is on YOU( person making the claim) To prove it. Until then please keep the condescension to a minimum.

I've said before that I've never met a single Christian who didn't see Jesus as a glorified reflection of themselves. They claim that their god provides an objective standard of morals and yet this standard always seem to be whatever they want it to be.

From a deist point of view what is the standard for benevolence?

I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I don't understand your question. Can you rephrase?

What level of benevolence does one need to reach before you a deist would consider a person to be benevolent.
(July 10, 2011 at 6:41 am)Pel Wrote: Gods child. I have a few questions for you and that is how can true God have two wills. By two wils I mean the old testament were he is exactly what Richard Dawkins said about him in the God delusion and the second will the new testament were God turns all sweet?

Somewere in the new testament it says that Jesus said that people in his presence want die before seing his second coming. Now he alegedly said that about two thousand years ago. I am sure that those people have died and I don't think that Jesus has come before there death unless there are people who are two thousand years old hiding among us. Can you please explain those verses?

And were it says to give your enemy to eat and drink because that way you heap coal above or below him. Now do you think that that is teaching you to be truly good or evil? I think its teaching you to be evil. Because true good would be to give him food and drink so that he might turn good. So that your kindest could perhaps make him kind. Not so that he would burn better, I mean you might as well pour petrol on him and burn him but ofcourse after you give him food and drink. Can you please explain?

Pel if you want me to explain bible verses for you please state book, chapter and verse/s, I do not have the time to look up verses for you and if I did I might use the wrong one and would have to start over. I will gladly try to explain verses to you as long as you provide them.
Thank you,
Godschild
