I, for one, did ask with sincerity. Not just when I was a Mormon, but when I converted to Christianity after realizing my first religion was stupid. It took me a lot less time to figure out that Christianity was no different when I still got no answer. The fact that you are getting an answer says more about your mental state than about whether God exists.

The ONLY thing Christians have to back up their story is themselves. If they're the kind of people that are admirable and virtuous and serene with the peace of God within them; that would be evidence that they have something special going for them that no one else has. Those types seem equally distributed among all religions and none, Christians aren't special in that regard...and most of them don't even try to be. I've never had a problem with a Christian because they're too forgiving, kind, and charitable.
