According to news reports the shooter's father was diagnosed as a psychopath and was once on the FBI's most wanted list for bank robbery and for escaping from prison back in the 1960s.

That's because when the motivation is Christianity it's usually genocide as opposed to a mass shooting.

The Perch, by Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB and @Brianrrs37 on twitter).

It's not about rights
It's about marketing fear
Decade after decade
Year after year

A clock tower
He went atop
Murderd several
It never stops

Happy Meals
In San Ysidro
21 dead
Made my yearbook

Galleghar's act
Smashes a watermellon
In a grade school
Without warning

The originalist
Live a lie
To sell more and do nothing
Everything will be fine

It's not about rights
It's always been about money
Violence sells weapons
The factories make profits

They shout
"It's the mentally ill"
Then run from their argument
When we agree to do something

They shout
"It's the criminals"
Then run from their arguments
When we agree to do something

They shout
"It's the terrorists"
But the truth for the makers
It's always about profits

36 floors up
Just like in Texas
A disturbed person
Had easy access

I am beyond sick
When they say
"Keep them out of the wrong hands"
Then scream when we agree.

It is nothing short
Of indoctrination
Obsession of an object
Abandoning reason

36 thousand
Die from use
In every fasion
You can think of

Month after month
Year after year
Decade after decade
They close their ears

Follow the money
If you want the truth
It is about profits
Not telling the truth

I've written prose
On gun violence before
I want to see the day
When I don't write anymore.
(end)

Ok. Whether it's mass shootings, genocide, or whatever else, I don't see how Christianity is a primary motive for terrorist killings.

CL, please, you have been here too long to pay victim.

I have constantly said that NO one religion owns a patent on human cruelty. Christians don't, Muslims don't, Jews don't, Buddhists and Hindus don't.

OUR, OUR, OUR, species problem is that we are tribal, and assign morality to old mythology. The problem is that while most humans are good, holy writings are at the same time used to justify harm to others, and just like the Koran and Jewish OT, for all the empathetic people that dont view their writings that way, others in the same camp do use the words in them to justify cruelty and call it morality.

Christianity is 1 religion on a planet of 7 billion. Islam is one religion on a planet of 7 billion. Jews are also 1 religion on a planet of 7 billion. Hindus and Buddhist as well.

Everyone makes an argument as to what makes their religion good. And all of them CAN point to motifs of compassion and kindness. That does not negate that others under the same label, use those same holy writings to justify harm to others.

THAT, has long since said to me, the our behaviors are not in old mythology, but in our genes.

There is not one nation on the face of the planet that does not have hospitals or prisons.

Our morality is not coming from above, our morality has always been in our genes.

I still don't blame the gun though.

Nobody is blaming an object.

You can blame the user for their attitude about the object.

Just like you'd be right to blame ISIS for their violent interpretation of the Koran.

If your kid thinks using his baseball bat to hit other kids is not ok, the bat isn't doing it no, but the kid IS USING THE BAT, and any sane parent would take the bat away.

So this is all "luck"?

So Newtown was also "luck"? Va Tec was "luck", Colombine was "luck", Charlston was "luck"?

No, just like last night, all of that was because we have one industry not giving a fuck where their products end up. None of this is "luck" but by design. Keep the violence up, the industry sells more weapons.

Most of our firearm deaths are not even from mass shootings. Most of them happen in the home or with someone the victim knew.

There is no "luck" going on here. There is one business industry with one lobby selling fear to protect our flooded market and ease of access. Fear and violence sell weapons.

Read up on the Crusades.

That was one thousand years ago. And they were fighting over land.

So what?  It doesn't count?

The church is the same pile of shit now as it was then.  They merely lack the power to get anyone to pay attention to them and they hate that more than anything.
