A new alert function

A new alert function
On another forum of which I'm a part, I find this to be extremely useful.

You use a function to link someone's username to your post so that the person receives an alert.

I'm not always quoting someone. Sometimes, I'm creating a new thread or post and want to direct a specific member to it. Therefore, I would use the function to send an alert to that forum member.

It's brilliant, and would work wonders over here.

I think that's a good feature. That's firmly in Tiberius' wheelhouse, our current alert plugin doesn't have that functionality.

Would you mind if it were via some sort of in-post tagging, i.e:

@[Cthulhu Dreaming]

I could match and hide tags like that so they don't appear, the square brackets are so usernames with spaces can be used (like my example). Square brackets are currently disallowed in usernames so it shouldn't pose an issue.

Ithankyou.

Certainly. Let me send you a binary you can install on your phone. Now I know you use one of those Android devices and it will prompt you for a load of permissions, you can just accept them all. Push notifications on Android require constant access to the camera and microphone, it's just a fact of life.

You forgot to mention that push notifications also require his ABA routing and checking account numbers.

Cool, when I have some time I'll work on this. The alerts system is supposedly pretty extensible, so I should be able to write an alert that detects these tags and handles them accordingly.
