So CL challenges me on saying that christianity teaches that only their god can judge and says that what this actually means is all their god can do is decide whether your soul (i.e. everything about you that makes you you) goes to heaven or hell. Then Alpha male challenges my assertion that being judged by their god on whether you end up in Heaven or Hell trivialises real-world decisions by saying that those decisions are also judged by their god to see what kind of perks we get in the afterlife.
This is the difficulty of arguing with a bunch of people who are just making up shit. Because if they weren't, they'd be consistent right? And that is actually Alpha Male's argument as well. He dismisses all scientific hypotheses, no matter how similar if they do not 100% agree and uses that opportunity to insert his own god-magic explanation. Yet being part of a tag-team of theists they can collectively switch to whichever interpretation of that best answers the question. So using Alpha Male's standards of debate I should be able to dismiss all theist arguments because none of them agree,
I am beginning to think that although religious indoctrination does seek to infantilise, sincere theist belief isn't so much childish as more akin to a mental illness. it's like trying to argue with a paranoid schizophrenic that everyone isn't out to kill them. Whatever you say, their brain will use it for confirmation bias.
I think I will explore these themes by starting new threads.
There is certainly a lot of personal jesussessess out there.
Mental illness, yes, unfortunately one still accepted by society because they are functional. But society puts up with a lot of functional mental illnesses, the ill are just less organized.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

You act shocked by the idea that Christians can think for themselves and have ecumenical disputes. Our ability to constructively engage each other undermines your thesis that theists are childish. As for indoctrination, that part is true. Each of us received education in the doctrines of his or her faith tradition. That does not automatically entail mindlessly accepting them. If that were true, AF would have no members that were formerly theists. Your real objection seems to be that other people don't reach the exact same conclusions as you. That seems kind of...I dunno...childish.

Bickering like children over fairy tales undercuts the observation that theism is childish....does it?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You must mean like people who are hopelessly confused about their sexuality.

"Teh Gayz!" and "My fairies aren't fairies"...................?
Performance art, or do you really think that either conversation has merit between adults?

I give you a pass because we're probably the only two members that have castrated piglets or assisted birthing sows.

Not sure what you mean by this.
But, atheists catch shit from every religion, not just one.
I'd say if the theist, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian really want to understand where we stand, don't just debate us, debate all the other religions too.
The only difference between an atheist who has no religion, or a god, is that we simply reject one more claim than they do.
Being an atheist, is like driving down a main street with several auto dealers selling invisible cars during the end of year sales event. Lots of different sales people, and gimmicks with the giant air pumped wavy flapping guy shouting, "BUY HERE, BUY HERE".

Not quite the same, and I'm not sure that they are hopeless. You'd have to ask them. I'm pretty sure they are not telling me that my sexual preference/identity is wrong or punishable by eternal fire. Or randomly telling me to "embrace sexual confusion" the way I constantly hear "god bless you".
But thanks for that little glimpse of paranoia.

To be blunt, I think it's probably Neo that's confused about their sexuality, not them.

Yeah that's something you have shown total ignorance over . Trns is not about sexuality nor is it a medical condition . Neither is homosexuality . No matter how much you bible thumping morons insist it is.
