I didn't mean to suggest that we are necessarily in one but I thought the idea that humans might be capable of creating a simulation so realistic that it's indistinguishable from real life was interesting and to the people inside the simulation it might seem like the creators and controllers of the simulation are gods, especially if they aren't allowed to leave for some reason. The idea got me thinking, what is the definition of a god? Then I thought about Elon Musk and his thoughts about the likelihood of us being in a simulation right now, he thinks there's a billion to 1 chance we're in a simulation (I hope I said that the right way around but what I meant was: he thinks we are in a simulation basically). Not that I really understood his logic for reaching that conclusion. I didn't. Long story short I have no idea if we are in a simulation. I'm not saying anything really other than that I think the concept of what is a god? is an interesting one and one day humans might be considered literal gods if they gain absolute power over others in a simulation and I guess they would be gods, to those people.
In your simulation scenario the creation of the simulation would take a lot of time and effort (at least it would for me). What do you think the creators motivation would be to create world with such imperfections? A world which often destroys the creations.
I don't know what the point would be, maybe as an experiment. I think it's nice that you perceive the world to be full of imperfections and state it like it's a universal truth or an absolute. I guess you are a very moral person and see all the pain and suffering and view these things as imperfections. I'm with you! but whether or not these things would be considered imperfections by a hypothetical creator isn't clear IMO.

Doesn't really matter much to me whether a lion likes to eat gazelle alive asshole first, or if the liongod who happens to be our sims programmer doesn't think that's an imperfection.
You?

hmm.. the idea of a lion eating a gazelle alive asshole first is horrible but then again I can't say I lose any sleep over it or over all the people around the world having a horrible time. I think most people don't lose any sleep over these things because they don't effect them personally. Otherwise we would never get any sleep. As to whether or not I care if the hypothetical creator of our reality is benevolent or not, of course I do! but there wouldn't be anything I can do about it.

Or..you know, help all the people the bastard is eating alive asshole first until it eats us alive asshole first.
I think you're selling yourself short, anyway. You care a little bit, right? You wouldn't watch somebody do something horrible to someone right in front of you, at least? What we can where we can when we can...and if it;s bad enough we might even go out of our way, yeah?

yes that's true, when bad things happen right in front of me I do care. Just not about 99.9... % of the bad things happening in the world. Maybe I care a little but not really, not compared to someone I care about getting hurt or something bad happening to me, there's no comparison.

Sure, crippling despair through a deep awareness of all the ways that people suffer doesn't help anyone. The good thing is, that so long as we care for ourselves and our families and our families care for us, we're all caring for each other..to some extent or another, in the collective.
Unlike liongod, the bastard. Great programmer. Trash person, lol.

Bad assumption, subjectively moral. And I was thinking bigger picture, not just pain and suffering. Stop thinking only about the human condition.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

hmm... then what are the imperfections, from a hypothetical creators perspective, that you were referring to?
