I got gutted with an appendectomy 6 weeks after having a ruptured appendix- doctor said that since I wasn't dead, they'd let my body clean up the mess. I've spent over 2 months hospitalized because of that appendicitis, on and off. I won't take any more from you thread, except to say that I am pleased that medicine has improved enough in the last 44 years that you suffered less!

OP, glad to hear you didn't get the infamous "sterile gauze packing". They changed mine every eight hours and nobody had to do it twice. Except me.

Shame.  When I had my laminectomy, they let me keep the bits of bone they took out.  I had them silvered and now wear them as a necklace.

In all seriousness I am amazed at the extent of laparoscopic surgery now.  One of the women in our dog rescue just had a full hip replacement done that way on a Monday and by Friday she was back tending to the dogs at the veterinary hospital she covers for us. 

In 1965 I had cartilage surgery on my knee and was in the hospital for a week.  I still have a seven inch scar.

The robot had six arms and cameras. Did they offer to sell you a DVD of your own surgery?

How bad was the pain when it started? How quickly did it get worse?

When it started it was about a 3 or 4. At its worst it was a 7-8. It got bad on Monday, so not long after it started.
