Personally I am OK with that. If there is no meaning in life except that which you give it then whatever makes them happy. It's when they impose their personal meaning it on others that annoys me.

The problem is that IRL it often becomes more than an annoyance.

Benign door knocking to theocratic politicking to terrorist martyrs.  All of these people are looking to secure the punch and pie......but I;m not sure that -this- life would miss any of that.

Frankly, I;m certain that it would be vastly improved.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You can build stuff but it will all fall to ruin eventually. You can hope our ancestors will carry on, but then they will die too, if not now, then eventually when the universe itself dies. If human existence is extinguished by death and all our legacies erased by time then there isn't anything to hope for beyond that boundary.

So you need the fantasy mental crutch to give your life meaning. Got it.

If you think life's meaning is whatever we each individually choose it to be, then why be bothered by a person who finds meaning in believing there's a God?
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

The problem is when the cult gets too big and too powerful and insists that everyone else join the cult and that the government bends to the cult's will.

Regarding how we only have the one life to live, it should be lived to its fullest.  Not squandered to a primitive mythology that irrationally demands only living a certain way for the supposed hope of an existence after death.

Some of us believe the Christian life is better both personally and for society. YMMV

Did you read my IRL post? I don't care on a person to person level, but that changes when I'm expected to behave christian because everybody around me is christian or get the shaming/shunning treatment. I think the only place you have to put up with walking in my shoes is here.

Many people generally want to impose their strong views on others, and on society in general. Whether you're Republican, Democrat, religious, atheist, etc - doesnt matter which. That just tends to be human nature. Wouldn't you prefer everyone to be atheist and liberal? You vote Democrat and youve tried to argue people out of opinions they have that you don't share, right?

I'm sorry people have shamed you for being atheist. A good way to respond is to not do the same thing and shame others for being things you're not.
