They weren't stupid. They just didn't like the way God saved them from the Pharaohs.
They kept to their old lifestyle and kept ignoring what Moses and his brother used to say. Sometimes I think so many of them just held to what Moses had to say because the grip of the pharaohs was brutal on them. In a way -or ways- are just like the modern Muslim fundamentalists. Ironically even in the looks. There is a common uniqueness between the looks of Christian priests, Jewish Rabbais and Muslim Sheikhs.
