I do have a laptop I work on at home but that is a gaming laptop with a full bore P4 processor and video card (no mobile version) and widescreen and full keyboard with numeric keypad. That means it is "portable" but at 8kg not exactly lightweight. And with 5 fans blowing out the bottom the last thing you want to do is put it on your lap.

A friend of mine used to have one like that, a gamers laptop from AlienWare.

I use this crappy Dell laptop from work - dull 14" screen where I can dock to a 19" TFT @ work. Does my eyes in tell ya!

Wireless for the web is indiscernible of course.. 54mbit to the router still farts all over 4mbit out. Transferring files is another matter... why put yourself through the pain.. but for web no wires rules. But then saying that my Netgear router is fiddly to set up for VPN so I just plug it in asI can't be assed to configure it :p

Wireless peripherals suck big time IMO. (did I cover everything? lol )

Obviously, but I thought you were talking about wireless mice, keyboard, etc. I'd never use a wireless connection to distribute files unless I really had to. I'd much rather use an external hard drive or cable.

Well for me at least there's the fact that the batteries run out like I said...

And the fact that if you game as regularly as I did - you can't afford to take them out and change them - there's no time. And it's a nuisance - and most importantly...WHAT IF you forget to change and the batteries run out? You're fucked! It's too risky lol...

About the tangles.. My mouse wires never tangled. And my headphone wires used to but not anymore because of the way I wrap them they never tangle anymore (I find early on when first buying headphones, how to set them up so they never tangle - and it of course, depends on the headphones (at least to some extent)).

With TVs though I get tangles! Uh! Not with computers anymore for some reason - although if I get more stuff for it I might have a problem... maybe not.

This is why I'm excited about the latest generation of lithium ion bats. This coupled with power over wireless technology means you could charge your laptop by sitting it on a POW enabled desk. As for the topic, Netbooks are ideal for it. I'm always taking mine with me to the bog and to bed with me. Its got several e-books on it which is better than actual paper in that it produces its own light source so after I'm done i don't need to get out of bed and turn the light off, and i can just sit it next to me instead of straining my arms holding a book up. First thing i do when i wake up is connect to the internet and for some strange reason talk about jaffa cakes on twitter. Then i get up and deal with other normal morning things.

Wireless internet: My desktop is far away from the router, I've no choice but to connect it via wireless. It serves as a file server to the rest of the network and as a media server to upnp enabled devices. This is less than ideal however if needs must.
