I was listening to the soundtrack for the movie American Beauty, when my mind wandered enough for me to ignore the music... it then came back, and that music sounded a lot like the soundtrack of Finding Nemo. So much I thought I was listening to Finding Nemo! That's how far my mind wandered...
So I checked and it was still American Beauty...
So I checked who wrote that music. Thomas Newman!
And who wrote the soundtrack for Finding Nemo?
Yep, Thomas Newman!
Interesting...

Watching Blue Planet, and I've just discovered something really bizarre: land-dwelling fish.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Busy night. Went to the dentist to get my new crown installed, then stopped in for the last 20 minutes of a writers' group meeting, then baked some shortbread for tomorrow night's Astronomical Society meeting. Did a tiny bit of writing, enough to keep my "write every day in September" streak alive.

Reluctantly got my day started so I'm out and about. Waiting on breakfast at my usual spot.
I'd like to go back to bed, but I haven't been anywhere in nearly a week now so it will do me some good to get out of the house for a few hours.

Something really weird happened last night, and it continues to be an unsolvable mystery.
I was trying to put the top on a jar of pickles when it slipped from my fingers and fell through a portal into a parallel universe. I heard it clatter but didn't hear it hit the floor. It couldn't have fallen on the floor because I was too close to the counter for it to get past me. But it wasn't on the counter. I brushed the floor with my foot, but it wasn't there.
It vanished. It must have fallen into a world where pickle jar lids are sentient beings with thoughts and feelings of their own, and now it doesn't want to come back and be my inanimate tool anymore.
I dumped the pickles into a plastic storage bag, but I still want my lid. I don't want to be stuck with this unfalsifiable mystery hanging over my head.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.
