It just rankles me - as this turd is stll maintaining the ad on Craigslist. They can' t plead ignorance. They know they' re trying to rip somebody off "legally".
What i would LIKE to do is place an ad on the same page that would read " see this ad? This prick is trying to rip you off".
But that would probably violate the Craigslist UEA.
I understand how it rankles you.
He tried to rip you off.
If that car shouldn't be sold to anyone then it needs to be damaged in an observable way that would make it unsellable.
So many ways, but do you have the guts to do it?
If you get away with it you'll sleep better at night.
Of course it's not really worth it because you could get caught.
But I think everyone of us should do something like that once or twice in their lives.
I have a different mindset to others.
I would consider it as giving back to the community and heroic. :-)

I would give them both zero respect.
To me, there's a world of difference between the two. At least the armed robber is robbing me to my face. The shady used car dealer pretends to be your friend, lures you in and then fucks you when you're not looking.
I have a great deal more respect for the armed robber, even if very little compared to the man who doesn't feel the need to steal from others to get by.

Then again, the shady car dealer is a lot less likely to shoot you in the face.

I may like one a little bit more than the other, but still zero respect from me. If someone wants to be a punk and hurt others, then let them get their respect from other punks. Usually they "eat their own" figuratively speaking. Now if they want to stop being punks, then hats off to them, and they may have my respect. I understand where you are coming from though. Just can't see myself thinking happy thoughts about someone sticking a gun to my face and demand something for it. You may have it right though, and I'm probably more likely to not hand them my wallet and get shot in the face. Hopefully neither of us ever has to find out.

Actually, even an armed robber is unlikely to shoot you in the face. Most of them just want your money and truly don't want to hurt you, even if you resist. Though, it does happen.

Eh, I think you'd be surprised at how you act with a gun in your face. Most people act very differently than they think they would in situations of extreme pressure. You'd probably give up your wallet just like anyone else. I surely would, as I'd rather live to fight another day than die with some sense of "pride" because I didn't give in to some punk. On the off-chance that the armed robber is willing to hurt me, I'd rather just give them what they want.

I would rather not give them my wallet. If it's easy, they'll just do it again. If I refuse, they may or may not shoot, but no reason they can't shoot you anyway just to dispose of the evidence.

Yea, once again, I think you'd be singing a completely different song if a gun was actually in your face. Unfortunately, I've had guns in my face several times. I've also been shot at and have seen friends of mine get shot and killed. There are times when I fought back and was lucky to make it out alive. Today, I understand that fighting isn't worth it. You're not going to teach anyone a lesson and it doesn't make you more of a man to fight back. But, hey, believe what you want. As you said, I hope you never have to find out, because if you do have to fight back, and something happens to someone, you probably won't feel very good about yourself, even if they deserved it.

It's not about wanting to just fight, but sometimes it's the cause behind the fight. If I had over my wallet, they may or may not shoot anyway. If I resist, hopefully intelligently, then they won't get what they wanted in one form or another. No matter what, if I surrender, there will be a next, and a next, and a next... Until someone is willing to stand up to them. I guarantee you, my dying words won't be, "Here's my wallet, now please don't shoot." But we're all different, and your position on it is understood.

You don't think about your principles when you're staring down the wrong end of a barrel. It's very easy to type about it on an internet forum but it's very different when it really happens. And unless you've been there before, you don't know what you'll do. End of story.
But hey man, tell yourself whatever you like about principles and doing the right thing. Problem is, you ain't gonna teach anyone a lesson. You'll probably just end up getting yourself or someone you love hurt.
