Cancer isn't funny. There is some comedic value in religion - for the non-religious.

One could no more effectively ban religion as one could ban wishful thinking, idiocy, or the desire to slouch.

I would not ban religion. I would much rather that people abandon it of their own volition.

It takes a long time for stupidity to subside, and many suffer due to that.

Commies banned religion in their countries, and well, it helped to nothing.
They were still poor, underdeveloped and communist.

Right, and Italy and Spain embraced religion. Look where they are now. I don't think Russia is in a worse position currently.

Well, Russia is scraping the bottom of it's natural reserves.
Italy and Spain had no reserves of anything to speak of.
Besides, I don't think that their "embrace" of anything has anything to do with their economical stance.
And as I professed before, it did not help the Soviet Union either.

Nor did banning it in effect hurt. It was economics, not the absence of religion, which hurt.
