American Gods & The Young Pope

American Gods & The Young Pope
I recently discovered these two TV series and I watched all all episodes and liked them very, very much, especially American Gods, as a work of art exploring new media, and as a type of "letter" to humans...

I feel they talked to me.

Have you seen these series, did you know they exist but haven't seen them, you don't want to see them? Do you plan on seeing them? Indifferent? Wrong forum? Wrong sub-forum?

I don't use social platforms to post things or comment or discuss on YT videos or anything like that. Just registered to comment on some thread that I found through Google search and now that I am here I thought sharing these series seemed appropiate and wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes, considering how relevant American Gods seem to be for me at this moment in time.

Adieu.

Season 1 of American gods is quite interesting.

Haven't watched any later seasons.

I don't like zombie media at all, but with this series I was like... Zombies too? Ok.

I thought that the thing that Wednesday said about airplanes being able to fly because people believe airplanes fly was like... OMG... IDK...

The whole thing about the traditional gods of the past, you know, the ones that we all know about from school education or from reading things online or at the library or something... And the war with the new godlike things... The media, the technology which delivers the media... The capitalism mr world...  and OMG, the Easter... It was so... I felt like the series was somehow created for me to see it, and see my thoughts that I had alone for myself and that I didn't read or heard from another person through voice talking or reading online... Like, a manifestation to prove that what I have imagined was real and was not like just my fantasies... Like if the future that I thought would come, WILL come.

Of course, this thought, of this happening, is still part of the whole fantasy, which is kind of fun to have, like religion, or being atheist and such, which is kind of a religion anti-religion kind of thing...

I discovered The Young Pope after discovering The New Pope. I somehow stumbled on the new pope speech to the cardinals, telling them that they will donate all gold to the poor and open the vatican to people to live in and stuff, and I thought like "oh, that would be a cool series to watch..." And then I forgot about it...

Then somehow I stumbled on the young pope speech to the cardinals, telling them that they will go super hardcore religious... And for a moment... (THIS EXPERIENCE HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE DISCOVERING AMERICAN GODS) ... and for a moment I felt like "the Media Goddess" was like altering the media in order to send me a message... Like if reality changed the series that I discovered about the pope, the one that I thought like "Oh, cool series to watch"... And that this time it was like "I AM GOD - T H E - GOD - AND THIS IS ME SPEAKING TO YOU THROUGH THIS MEDIUM - LISTEN TO MY WORDS - THE WORDS OF GOD" bla bla bla bla... Of course I am not a crazy person that believes that her/his beliefs are real... It was like a funny moment in time that I had.

And this little moment experience is what made American Gods discovery so... like mind blowing to me... Also because like 1 week before I discovered it I literally saw a crow or raven on my street, standing on a light post thing, eating something, and this type of bird is never here, and it was like the first time that I see one, it was like super big, and when it flew away after minutes of eating whatever it was eating it made like a loud noise of bird like brrrrrr, it was a very special view of thing because all other birds were flying and doing their bird things as usual, random pigeons and stuff... but that crow/raven...

So when I discovered that Wednesday was Odin I was like OOOMMMMGGGG WTTTFFF

IDK...

I hope like this little weird things keep happening to me in order for whatever happens, it's like kind of fun to get a little crazy hopes and faiths after living a life of trying to be all antichrist and exploring reading from benevolent to malign religions and churches and bla bla bla...

Actually, opening an account on this forum, and me talking about this is kind of a... "ritual"... just in case...

But again, I am still sane...
Which I am really bored of.

Have you considered the very real possibility that you might be off your nut?

I watched The Young Pope. What struck me about it was the way Jude Law's character had total confidence in himself -- to the point where he was sure what God would want, on most things. I lack such confidence in myself, so it was kind of a strange idea. Like imagining what you'd do if you were a billionaire.

The New Pope had more sex, which was fun. But I thought the story really fell apart. It lost focus.

American Gods was not so interesting to me... It just seemed to be about more powerful people and less powerful people manipulating each other. And it was like the Marvel movies (Thor and Loki) in that what they call "gods" were just superheroes. There was nothing about the fundamental difference between gods and people that Plato or Nietzsche talked about. I mean, it was a fun story but it reduced and deracinated what's interesting about mythology. I agree with you that turning Media and others into modern gods was a cool idea.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. We could use a little out-of-the-ordinary craziness here. I look forward to it.
