I have never had the goal of being rich.  Being a decent mother and keeping food on the table was my goal.  I surpassed that but am way short of being rich.

My late biological grandfather worked for CVS for over 30 years. He ended up making minimum wage when he retired. Not because he wanted to, but  because giant corporations are greedy fucks, and kept cutting his wages and benefits and hours.

I agree, it is very possible to be successful without making it to the top. 

THAT is why it is important to value every job, not just what you think people should or should not do or be.

Giants always stand on shoulders. And there will always be more shoulders than giants.
