It's like a 747 pilot jumping into a taildragger like a Piper Cub - if he has never been checked out and learned it - he is very likely to get into trouble - as they require different skill sets.

And Brian - I cannot stress how very little I care that you disapprove of my choice to carry a gun legally.

Nor do the legislators in my state.

Your opinion does not affect the reality at hand.

I am licensed. I may carry.

Boo hoo to you..

DAMN IT MAN, WILL YOU STOP FALSELY ACCUSING ME ABOUT MAKING THIS ABOUT YOU PERSONALLY.

This is about collective societal attitudes.

In a perfect world, if we didn't have the amount of firearm violence we do, I wouldn't be bitching. But we do not live in a perfect world and we do have a extremely high and needlessly high rate of firearm violence.

Now again, and you still have yet to answer me. DO YOU think I should be allowed to own a firearm? YES OR NO?

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn....

The civilian training is woefully inadequate and the combat training is too much. Seems like there's no good training for Joe Schmuckatelli when he's packin'.

Yes typical.

So basically you are saying you don't give a shit that people with mental illness own firearms? Nice, glad you were not my mother. I'd be dead from suicide long ago.

Don't hand me that bullshit. You damn sure would not sell me a firearm if you owned a gun shop and you fucking know it.

You simply gave this answer because you know damned well you don't like the cognitive dissonance.

The problem with our laws as the stand, because I have no record I could go out and buy one right now. I will never own a firearm not because I'd hurt other people. But because I don't want to have a moment of weakness and kill myself. The other reason is because I have always been a clutz.

But unfortunately the same laws that allow dangerous people like this one to get hold of them. The same laws that allowed Roof to get a hold of them. The same laws that allowed the Virginia Tec shooter to get a hold of them. Not all people who kill other people get their firearms illegally. In fact the opposite is true.

At least you are bright enough to know you shouldn't have a firearm.

I would like to back up and ask if you are saying you are mentally ill...it certainly sounds like that's what you are saying.

If you were ever to get a gun, I would hope you would be issued a single bullet that you had to carry in your pocket, a la Barney Fife.

Again - it's "klutz".

And before you respond OLB, like others have said , please drop your poor me persecution complex.

Go look up the word "nuance" learn it hear it accept that nuance isn't scary.

Nobody is treating you as the only sample in the world of a gun owner. If anything you are treating guns as one size fits all.

When I say, most firearm injuries and deaths happen in the home with someone the person knows or in the neighborhood, I am not saying you will automatically do it. I am simply stating a fact that most gun injuries and deaths start out with a legal purchase, and most injuries and deaths are not stranger on stranger conflicts.

Quick count: How many of you know how many people you would trust with a gun?

Actually quite a few.  I grew up around hunters and in an area where most every household had multiple guns.

My dad, brother, uncles, cousins, husband...I could come up with a substantial list.

Do they hunt in McDonald's?

Seriously, military and hunters are two groups who are more likely to be aware of their surrounds and the lethality of their firearms. And hunters still have a lot of blue-on-blue incidents.

I am not "mentally ill" I have "mental illness". Too much of society treats "mental illness" like the character in the movie psycho. There is too much stigma attached to those words. Most people who have mental illness are not violent. But there certainly are those whom are not self aware like me that end up committing suicide, and others who do hurt others, even if in the minority.

Most firearm deaths and injuries outside suicide are a combo of ego, narcissism, power and control and entitlement which can be combined with things like greed, economic problems, sociopathy and most of those people are not mentally ill.

Why would I want to carry a single bullet? Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon carried a "special" bullet just for suicide because he always thought about it, and made excuses not to do it. I am sorry, but if you seriously think that is a sane way to cope, that is nuts. I don't want bullets or guns.

You asked how many people we would trust and I answered.

McDonald's isn't even in the equation.

I didn't realize you were an expert on why other people choose to commit suicide.  Interesting that you think you are.
