Of course, this will slow things down again and people will still be going without as they have been for months now.

He is veering all over the damn place...someone needs a tranquilizer dart to the neck.

I suspect the only reason he wants to send more money is so more people will support his bid to overthrow the election.

I think the biggest reason is that he wanted to get even with Mitch for recognizing Biden as President Elect. And quite frankly morso revenge to America for not re electing him. This is more a desperate stunt than anything else. He doesn't care if 2k passes or not. He is deliberately starting a fight between Pelosi and Mitch and simply is trying to burn down the house before he leaves office.

The only reason he did this is to throw the members of congress who didn't support his insane attempt to say there was election fraud, under the bus.
He *was involved* for the past few months. Mnuchin would have kept him informed of the negotiations. Trump was suprised by nothing. He really is insane/mentally ill.
He's burning down the house, as he leaves.

It's possible both apply. The question in my mind is, who among congressional Republicans didn't support him such that somebody needs throwing under the bus? Not that Trump wouldn't think he needed to do so, but it's rather overkill with little benefit against imagined enemies.

Your mistake is that you are being rational, trying to evaluate insanity, which by definition is not.
Trump is now, and always was, unfit for the office he will soon be out of.

Trump was going to burn the house down no matter what. He simply cannot stand to lose. He will cause as much chaos as possible till he finally leaves the White House.

None of his behavior surprises me at this point.

I am not sure if I think he will continue to rally his rabble or if he will disappear from the public eye.

I won't be surprised to see Melania and Barron on a plane for anywhere but here.

I wuld say that the checks and balances were remarkably bad and the composers of the constitution should have foreseen the inevitable result, given what happened to their model the Roman Republic.

This result was an inevitability.

It seems like the biggest failure of the system is that the framers didn't anticipate the emergence of political parties and how that would corrupt an otherwise sound division of powers.  They concentrated on keeping ultimate power out of the hands of one individual or one group, but they didn't foresee the power that a single party could wield if it controlled the white house and large chunks of the legislative and judicial branches.
Why is it so?

Thanks for that. If you hadn’t already mentioned it 50 times, we might not have gotten it.

Well then they must have been blind, because political parties were older than the country. What they didn't anticipate, in reality, was that ordinary Joe Soaps would demand a share of power. They thought the counyry squires would run the country in perpetuity, an unbroken line of Trumps down through the centuries.
