It's a well established fact that anyone who objects to the fascist coup attempt of one donald jessica trump is somewhere to the left of hugo chavez' ghost (no, not that one, the imaginary one in the krackhead lawyers dreams)...and called for the violent overthrow of the federal government by [checks notes]...erecting a tent city in oregon.

Pretty much every Republican I have known for the last 20 years doesn't recognize any form of centrism at all. If you aren't with them, you're so far left you're about to fall off the planet. And during that time the GOP has purged itself of anyone resembling centrists or compromisers.
Why is it so?

How are they going to recognize centrism? Centrism is a compromise between themselves, and a position they don't believe is a legitimate american position. They stopped arguing that they won the vote, they're just arguing that dems don't count anymore. Dems are illegitimate.

I think we’d have to wait until the more jackasstic Tumblr “SJW”-types or even Tankies to become mainstream before those fears become justifiable beyond “um, guys, I think you might be going a bit overboard.”

The right does a lot of projecting. It seems their number one defense mechanism. Which makes sense, as it's a form of denial.
