And if it had been peaceful BLM protestors they would have been gassed, tased, and possibly shot.

Military men find calling a bunch of drunks with guns "an insurrection" offensive. We have 25,000+ troops in DC. They wouldn't run out of issue ammo if they had to, ahem, "quell" that riot.

Not the point.
The imagery of the attempt, has a very real impact on assholes who want to destroy our government. The fact they failed does not change the fact that the attempt was literally less than a minute away from the ability of killing members of congress and the VP.
We can expect future attempts by far right assholes on softer targets. Other state houses, or businesses or churches sympathetic to the left.
Trump succeeded in making domestic terrorism a long term concern.
