Hell - Where is the idea of justice?

RE: Hell - Where is the idea of justice?
The same goes for god.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I think Voltaire said "IF god did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him"

I can't prove hell does not exist, but when you look at the history of the concept, it appeared fairly late on in the development of the religion; an add-on, if you will. My belief is that hell was invented to support religion and not as a revelation from God.

I have as much proof as you.

Assuming there is not a Hell what is the point of salvation then? If we are not going to be punished what are we being saved from?

...and at what point in the development of the religion did the concept of salvation germinate and become important?

Probably when any given culture (or individual) found themselves on the outs and felt the need to be "saved" from whatever they felt was oppressing them. Simple questions, simple answers.

Salty's answer is a convoluted trainwreck where he defines atheism according to the Bible, and Chad's answer is to renounce 80% of his religion (the Hell part).
What clever theists we have here.

I can not say he's not a christian but I do have serious doubt.
Salty that was awesome, the people in your life are graced by God to have you in their lives.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

What's wrong with acknowledging that Hell and much of all religions are facets of the political times at various stages of their development. I regard that skepticism as essential in the search for the truth which should surely take me closer to God (or away from him for all you atheists out there!).

Hell is not 80% of my religion. God's judgment does not have to be Hell. I do not have to believe in Hell to be a Christian.

What's wrong is that this notion runs all over their dogma. These people have built powerful barriers between reality and their cherished fairy tales. To admit that one item may be incorrect would be to call the entire fairy tale into question. After all, if the hell narrative is bullshit what else might be bullshit? To them this is the opposite of faith. Their god simply cannot be greater than they have imagined. They've boxed him in and they'd like to keep him in their comfort zone. Dogma is a sort of Maginot Line of religious thinking. It looks like an impressive fortification, until someone decides to drive right around it, then it's just an embarrassment.
