The United States and the growing divide

The admixture of political opponents assures that. It's not like a "red" state is even all the red,, and vice-versa. We're all blue in this house, and many of the neighbors are still putting support fetishes for the chump in their front yards.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

That was also the case in 1860 in many states.

Am I only one who's optimistic about America's future? I think this country is evolving from something of a philosophical anarchy, into an actual, real society.

I kind of wish we'd just split up at this point. I am willing to move and also help others get to the half they want to live in.

Nah, I am too. Every major social change has started with a painful disruption.

I have my doubts that this divide between progressives and conservatives is actually going to destroy the country. But only because I've been sold doomsday Kool-aid for so long, I am skeptical of every "the world is ending" story. Sounds like catastrophizing and emotionality to me.

But even if it did split the country up... So? And? The US will become a different country with different divides, different borders. It's not the end of the world, it's just an evolving world. I'm not saying it'll be fun or pretty, but I'm fatigued by the people who the worst thing they can imagine is the United States not being united or the US of A as it always has been anymore. I find it easier to accept that things don't always need to stay the same because they weren't as great and idealized to begin with. It's not a nation blessed by god, so, change is fine and often necessary.

Lots of people didn't take Hitler seriously when he first started making noise. In fact Hitler got arrested and spent time in jail for his actions. That was when he wrote Mein Kampf. At that point of German history Germany was still a western democracy.

Never say never.

But do you really want the country to be split to to different borders? I'd feel like a South Korean if the former guy became president of Texas if it became it's own separate right wing country.

It isn't a matter of "ideology". You are right, things do change over time. But if I had my choice of having a friendly neighbor who isn't a fucking dick, vs having a neighbor who you can get along with, I'd take the latter.

I doubt you'd make this same argument if you were a slave living in the Civil War South. General Lee was not just a traitor on political lines or economic lines, he fought to keep slavery.

Yes we do have divisions, but right now, at this point in history, only one party is fanning the flames of those divisions, and that party hates not only gay marriage, and female body autonomy, and wants its own theocracy, our GOP hates atheists too.

How do you suppose this makes any difference?  If one side is fanning the flames, the other side is opposing them and therein lies the division.

That is like arguing flat earthers have a right to insist everyone be taught the earth is flat.

At this point in history, the left gets facts right thousands of times more than the right does.

The right insists that climate change is a hoax. The right claims the election was stolen. Those two things alone are a threat to facts.

It does make a difference. There was a time in American history where women couldn't vote and blacks had to sit at the back of the bus. Only one party today is attempting to turn back the clock on progress.

We'll need to get a handle on internet social networks. To much bullshit posted being believed as fact.
