Texas Law could circumvent Roe V. Wade

RE: Texas Law could circumvent Roe V. Wade
Let' s start an Above Ground Railroad.

Provide transport and temp housing for freedom minded women who want to flee this wannabe Gilead. Empty the state of single, available women.

Then those uptight fetus loving assholes can go fuck themselves......

Unless the conservative majority Supreme Court steps in (which it seems unlikely to do), Roe V. Wade may be made functionally useless by a Texas Law.

This is absolutely insane! And not enough people are talking about it. This is why McConnell et al wanted Kavanaugh and Barrett on the court.

The GOP are pro birth, not pro life. They think they are better than the Taliban. They certainly are acting like they want to be the Taliban.

They're not even pro-birth. They're anti-women.

Define "many switched to Trump." There was a decline in the percentage of women who voted Democrat in 2016, but it was by a single percentage point. And it went back up by three percentage points in 2020.

Case in point, How Groups Voted in 2012, 2016, and 2020

Might be time to start adding to the number of judges.
Then the R's will add some when they get back in the position to do so --- pretty soon you will have hundreds on the bench.......

And hey - they still die and retire - so whoever is in office gets to replace them......

Long term - adding members is a very bad idea...

Problems with this argument:
1) There can still be limits written into legislation; FDR's court packing plan even specified a limit of 17 judges.
2) Fun fact: the only way the Republicans could even get to that level of power that they have in the past couple years is by restricting who gets to vote. Donald Trump and Linsdey Graham have both gone on record as saying that without their bullshit restrictions on who gets to vote, there'd never be another President again. This might be changed if they decided to not make hostility towards anyone who isn't a straight, white, cisgender, Christian man (and wealthy and/or uneducated ones at that, a base that is getting smaller and smaller every day) one of the, if not THE, central pillar of their ideology, but I can't expect them to have time for rational solutions.
3) One of the other things that the Dems have been pushing for lately, which has gotten more traction than adding justices to the Supreme Court: getting rid of those very same voting restrictions that the Republican's majorities hinge on.

Hell, if Illinois had a law like that, I'd probably decide it wasn't worth it to have sex with a woman. Then again, I can't say I've ever heard of a dakimakura getting pregnant.

Here's an English translation of a song written by Bertolt Brecht:

lyrics (A different translation, I admit):
Quote:“Please, doctor. I’ve missed my monthly...”
Why, this is simply great!
If I may put it bluntly
You’re raising our birthrate.
“Please, doctor, now we’re homeless...”
But you’ll have a bed somewhere
So best put your feet up, moan less
And force yourself to grin and bear.
You’ll make a simply splendid little mummy
Producing cannon-fodder from your tummy
That’s what your body’s for, and you know it,
what’s more
And it’s laid down by law
And now get this straight:
You’ll soon be a mother, just wait.

“But, doctor, no job or dwelling:
My man would find kids the last straw...”
No, rather a new compelling
Objective to work for.
“But, doctor...” Really, Frau Griebel
I ask myself what this means
You see, our state needs people
To operate our machines.
You’ll make a simply splendid little mummy
Producing factory fodder from your tummy
That’s what your body’s for,
and you know it, what’s more
And it’s laid down by law
And now get this straight:
You’ll soon be a mother, just wait.

“But, doctor, there’s such unemployment...”
I can’t follow what you say.
You’re all out for enjoyment
Then grumble at having to pay.
If we make a prohibition
You bet we’ve a purpose in mind.
Better recognize your condition
And once you’ve agreed to put yourselves in
our hands, you’ll find
You’re a simply splendid little mummy
Producing cannon fodder from your tummy
That’s what your body’s for,
and you know it, what’s more
And it’s laid down by law
And now get this straight:
You’ll soon be a mother,
just wait.

Frankly, this is the most altruistic interpretation of the Republicans' pro-life position that makes any sense to me: creating more live babies to turn into dead soldiers. And unless they decide to start putting things like "improve our educational system" and "eliminating poverty" at the forefront of their ideology, I'm calling bullshit on any other rationales they give.

The disturbing thing is that this could have been written in 2021 America instead of 1929 Germany and the only thing that'd change, except maybe the name Frau Griebel, is that they wouldn't even have a job as a factory drone to look forward to. Because, of all the fucking things that would change in 92 years, of course decimating an entire category of labour and laying waste to the economy of a good-sized portion of the country in the process would be the one. Fuck this timeline.

Doesn't have anything to do with babbies..or even controlling women. It's an example of the banality of evil.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Specific example of the general case.

I've been shouting since the former guy started attacking Obama after he poked fun of him at the press conference dinner, when the former guy started his public tirades, and continued them throughout his run years after, that what he was doing was dangerous. Combine that with the fact that Mitch basically rigged the supreme court, knowing the GOP base wanted to seat a Supreme court that would undo Roe V Wade. The Supreme court didn't give the GOP what they wanted with this last ruling. Much like lots of other cases as being confused with overturning, but merely skipped,  because of media not clarifying, this last ruling let the vigilante law stand, not because abortion should be illegal, but based on a "technicality".

It really is no different than the Newdow "pledge case". The SCOTUS at that time was not saying "Under God" in the pledge should stay, but in that Newdow, at the time, did not have enough legal custody of his kid to file the lawsuit.

But you are absolutely right. This is evil. If law, even outside the issue of abortion, is going to legalize vigilantism, which is what the Texas law is, it is a huge alarm.

Republicans have been allowed to hide behind Roe for too long, relying on virtue signaling to turn out voters with no fear they would have to face the consequences of eliminating medical services for abortions. Now they will have to face those consequences, and it will not be pretty. The Supreme Court has granted them the means to shut off abortion access, so now we'll see whether that's what voters really want. If polling is any indication, Republicans are in for a rough ride. Hopefully, that will mean that as awful as this period is, it will only be temporary.

Will need to keep the anti-Trump folks angry thru 2024 and continue to get opposition voter turnout, especially in swing states.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.
