Old, for sure.  I can only listen to most newer artists for a few seconds before I change the channel.  Some exceptions; 21 Pilots and Lorde for example.
Old music is cool, but new music has that sweet, sweet novelty value.

I was really never exposed to much in the way of classical music.  I think if I would have been when I was young, it might have become something I enjoy and seek out.  The 'old' music I heard was the music of the Catholic church...nothing like a funeral dirge to turn a kid on to music...that's what we were taught in 6th grade so we could sing funeral masses.  UGH

When I was a teen I hated Jazz and Classical Music. But a brief girlfriend in my early 20s I wanted to try to impress by trying to get into the music she was into. She was into Stan Getz. Took me a while to get used to him, but that opened the door for me for other jazz artists. And later on after college I briefly worked for a few years at a small old folks radio station, and on Sundays we had a hour of classical music in between live local church broadcasts, or pre taped. "Prelude to The Afternoon of a Fawn." was one of my favorites.

I'm so hip, I listen to music that hasn't even been made yet.

A few years ago, a friend played a new band for me.  Young kids, the singer was great.  The songs were lifted from early Zeppelin with a little Wolfmother thrown in.  Highly derivative.  I thought, hell yeah, it's coming back around.

Weeks later, I asked my daughte, "Why didn't you tell me about Greta Van Fleet?"

"Ew, I hate them.  All the little 15 y/o girls went crazy and it's sickening.  They're a ripoff.  They've got nothing."

Time will tell.  So far, it's looking like she was right.  Their latest was more of the same.

We blew 'em away at the Grammy's show
By refusing to play and refusing to go
And just when we thought fame would last forever
Along come this band that wasn't even together

I listen almost exclusively to either classical (Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, etc) or late 60's/early 70's rock.

I don't generally have music seeking behavior, though. I can easily go for a month without listening to anything.

I do pick up stuff from the environment, so if my wife listens to something, I tend to learn it.

At the risk of being that "GET OFF MY LAWN" old guy, what is her problem, it is Pink Floyd? Just like nobody puts Baby in the corner, nobody puts Pink Floyd in the corner.

No, it’s a dad/daughter thing. So you didn’t get it.
