I received a letter from a theist, need a good reply
March 10, 2022 at 9:35 pm
(This post was last modified: March 10, 2022 at 9:45 pm by Radamand.)
Hello all,
Today I received a printed letter from a stranger in a nearby community. She is a jehovah's witness and wanted to share some of her ideas on recent news events.
She thoughtfully included her personal gmail address in case I wanted to continue the correspondence, I'd like to reply to her from an atheist view.
Unfortunately I am not terribly well versed and wanted to see if anyone else would have some input. I'd like to be nice, but not expecting another reply from her.
Thanks,
Rada

Perceived via subjective bias, scripture can mean whatever you want it to mean. I am not impressed with your interpretation.
That would be my response.

JW's are allowed to fraternize with the outside world on non JW topics, fascinating.

Maybe you could say: How come you have a need to force other people to listen to your doctrine, and yet you yourself refuse to listen to any other opinion besides JW's or read any book outside your religious bubble?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Only when they think they can get a conversion and/or money out of it.
As soon as they realise it's a lost cause, they cut contact and move on to the next potential source of revenue.

Ah... I got a nice handwritten letter from a JW lady some half a year ago.
She made the mistake of allowing me to reply via email and.... she didn't reply.
I was disappoint.

I had two JWs who came to my door once some 35 years ago. We spoke for 20 minutes. I invited them back; they never came.

It' s been many years since they came to my house...
I suspect they got smart and started a database that defines the threat level of every house....
I' ll bet I bring up DEFCON 1....

I read your letter and I interpreted it to mean that you are looking for a way out of the Jehovah Witness cult. I'll do what I can to help you, but frankly it's really going to be up to you to take those steps to leading a more rational life.
I'll contact your local JW cult leader and tell them how much you want to leave. I hope this will be helpful.
