Perhaps people could come back down to reality if they understood that the us only accidentally and begrudgingly ended up on the right side of this one - and only for now-, years later, because it senses the opportunity to do evil.

See, america is the great satan, and you don't even have to carry water to say it!
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Yup, it sounds ridiculous until you realize that they're not -just- looting.  They need those chips for their war effort.  Shit, they've been stealing traffic cams in border countries, too, for the same reason. Why do they get into firefights with each other over washing machines? Because a unit that can reliably bring in the chips might not be used for recon by fire - a death sentence.

Meanwhile, russia has suffered massive casualties (and we can assume ukraine has, as well) in a failed general push along the bahkmut artillery lines. So much for those new recruits, ground into meat.

There are unconfirmed reports - which would not surprise me if they turned out to be true - that the recent Russian conscripts are referring to themselves as ‘tseli’.

It means ‘targets’.

That's what they are. That's what they've been (poorly) equipped for. The ukranian tdf is much the same, for different reasons. The tdf rallies for the ukranian callups because they've been given the tools of success and they've used them to great effect, because they aren't expected to simply die hiding in a "fortified" position and losing their very expensive gear in the process. The russians, for their part, know that the important troops were already shredded and they expect exactly what they've been called up to be used for. Thing is, even if it weren't true, which it is, troops would still feel that way and communicate with each other that way. There are no fantasists on a firing line. Even the most uneducated groundpounders...i think...would surprise people with their insight, in that event, if "people"..rather than joes, were ever there to hear it. When you have orders that end in your death you get a rare sort of clarity. You'll still do it, you wouldn't still be there if you wouldn't, but you know what you're doing...at that point.

I've seen some of the video, it's horrific. Meanwhile, ISW reports that those Russian lives were thrown away because they couldn't or wouldn't wait to assemble a force capable of executing the mission, instead throwing their troops away in penny-packets, as the Brits say.

Also meanwhile, the Russians are evacuating Kherson and the west bank of the Dneipr River, with the exception of defensive positions NW of that city. It looks to me like they finally grew a couple of neurons and realized you need good troops to mount an effective rearguard -- they have moved airborne troops into those defensive spots. But you know as well as I do what that means -- those airborne troops are now relying upon green troops on the other side of the river to secure their flanks and supply lines to Sevastopol.

I suspect it's only a matter of time before the Ukrainians launch a thrust to Kerch and well and truly fuck the southern Russian front.

I’ve heard that some Russian soldier who are from region like Siberia are so poor that even things like an old wash machine or a used refrigerator is of value to them and that they will plunder these goods to send them to their families in those remote regions.

I’ve heard that Ukrainian Generals are still not underestimating them. The whole thing might be a trap. And Russians still have an advantage of numbers and artillery. Ukraine is therefore asking for more modern artillery and better air defense systems.

Also the toll on civilians is beginning to be felt. So although everyone wants to see an end to this conflict as soon as possible. It’s still a relatively strong army they are facing.
