The Absurd GOP
RE: The Absurd GOP
The GOPs platform is anti democratic, and anti american (words we both understand perfectly well, it would seem). I mean, this is the absurd gop thread, isn't it? I'm sure you can scare up shitty politicians anywhere, and I have a whole different set of gripes for the dems. Not that it would mean much to me or my opinion of the GOP, what with not voting for anyone in illinois...or, more broadly, anyone from either party.

I get the strong impression that you tend to think you're having an argument with a dem - even as you rail about tribal politics like it would be a bad thing. For me, it's a whole lot simpler. The GOP is unfit to even be an american political party, and none of my policy disagreements with a given dem or even the entire dem establishment have anything to do with it.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The "legal mechanism" you're advocating for an unliteral executive order. That's rather "anti democratic". You want to legalise dictatorial powers, but only for Democrats I would imagine. It would obviously go away if say Trump or DeSantis became Potus.

If Trump or DeSantis became Potus the us would go away. See the dilemma? Clowns to the left of me, traitors to the right.

How is the GOP platform "anti democratic" and "anti american"?

I'm asking for which policies are "anti democratic" and "anti american".

As before, you can fill in the blanks with whatever you like, you do understand what the words mean, and they provide ample opportunity.

This really ought to be a much easier convo, don't you think? I think the GOP is anti-democratic, and anti-american. You can see why I might find it absurd that such a group would be an american political party. Yes? You might also be able to see why even though I think that the dems are absolute fuckups, that won't change what the gop is a whiff, eh? You might also, at a stretch, be able to realize that a person who doesn't vote for either party and has a low opinion of both parties can't exactly be batting for one team or the other - thus, this observation wouldn't have much to do with party politics or tribalism.

Or is that a bridge too far?

A lawfully elected president acting on his mandate using the EO is not anti-democratic and Trump did use the EO while in office and I imagine DeSantis will as well imagine. Nor did I say only Democrats can use the EO. Though I don't imagine the Republicans having the same feelings about the Dems.

Jayapal wanted an entire bill (the BBB) to become an EO. We're not talking some minor EO, we're talking major pieces of legislation.
