Took the cat tree apart. This is a better use for it.

This evening I had to take Chewy to the emergency vet to have her put down.  Not sure what happened but it happened fast and after several hours I could no longer watch her die.

We had her about 30 years.  She was not a fan of being handled but was quite the entertainer with her whistles, words, other sounds, and silly acrobatics.  I knew she was sick when she wouldn't leave the bottom of her cage and didn't try to bite me but instead was content to have me pet her and talk to her.

Tomorrow I will take her to be cremated and will put her favorite toy (a bell) with her just as I have the collar of each dog we have lost.

They tried to cut her ankle bracelet off but the damn thing must be made of titanium or something...but as long as I have her bell....

When we moved from SC to TX, all the critters rode with me.  Chewy sat in a cage on the console and watched every mile.  It was only right for me to take her on her last ride.  But my heart hurts.  I held her and stroked her as the meds took effect.  It was a bittersweet goodbye.

^^^ Bummer, condolences. You'd think it would get easier but it never does. Better now than when on your trip.

Is that a piece of the 'special' cornbread?

I think that's a hunk of baked mac n cheese...another favorite though certainly not daily treat.

But there is still special cornbread in the fridge.  Zeus will eat it; he loves it as much as she did.

And, no, it never, ever gets easier.  Note it was me, again, that had to do the deed.  Husband couldn't/wouldn't.  Guess there are some things you just accept easier when you grow up with a veterinarian for a parent.

My condolences.

It's never easy losing a cherished pet.

It sucks to lose family. It's good that you were there to comfort her.
