They don't hear what he says, mostly because he's a babbling lunatic. They ignore what he says and imagine he said whatever they wanted.
For clarity, they keep telling me they got had, but I don't believe them. Ethnic cleansing was a winning message. It polls well across the aisle right now. Republicans came out to get it, and democrats stayed home to allow it.

Indeed, and they melt down about it because they know they are. They want to be nazis, but they don't want to be seen as nazis, because our society has very effectively stigmatized this. An impossible dilemma. Consider our friends retort. It wasn't any dispute over the facts, instead, he pleaded with us to let the numbers change the facts. On some level, they vote for the chump because they believe him when he says he's their salvation. A win would validate them, and automagically make them not the very bad thing™ they very much are and wish they weren't. Poor things just can't quit him.
