Russia and Ukraine
RE: Russia and Ukraine
Ukraine Declares Russia’s Summer Offensive a Failure

Ukraine’s top general Oleksandr Syrskyi said Russia’s spring and summer offensives of 2025 had failed to achieve key objectives. Moscow had aimed to take Pokrovsk, seize all of Donetsk, and secure “buffer zones” in the north, but none of those goals were met.

Ukraine’s resilience, despite being outgunned in artillery, signals that Russia’s war effort is again bogged down. This could affect both battlefield morale and international support for Kyiv.

Ukrainian Command: Syrskyi emphasized that Russian “thousand cuts” tactics — sending many small assault groups — had been blunted, though fighting remains intense.

Russian Military: Has not admitted failure, instead framing its advances in Donetsk as slow but steady. Pro-Kremlin voices claim attrition will ultimately favor Moscow.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Fun fact: Both German and Japanese strategists made this same argument in WWII.

Counting on attrition is inherently a gamble on future circumstances that may or may not obtain. Hope is not a strategy.

Quote:Ukraine claimed it attacked a major electronic connector production facility with R-360 Neptune ground-launched cruise missiles early Monday morning. The Elektrodetal plant, located in eastern Bryansk Oblast, was attacked from well inside northern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials, who are still working to determine the extent of the damage.

“We are adjusting the work of the Russian defense factories,” the Ukrainian Navy stated on Telegram. “At night, our ‘Neptune’ successfully struck the Russian Karachevsky ‘Electrodetal’ plant. Another link in the enemy’s supply chain is down.”

Awty:

Sorry I was trying to say:

“On 24 November 2015, a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet shot down a Russian Sukhoi Su-24M attack aircraft near the Syria–Turkey border. According to Turkey, the aircraft was fired upon while in Turkish airspace because it violated the border up to a depth of 2.19 kilometres (1.36 miles) for about 17 seconds after being warned to change its heading ten times over a period of five minutes before entering the airspace. The Russia Defence Ministry denied that the aircraft ever left Syrian airspace, claiming that their satellite data showed that the Sukhoi was about 1,000 metres (1,100 yd) inside Syrian airspace when it was shot down.”   Cool

I believe that this Russian Aircraft must have been warned at least several times before being shot down. But I want to say that the exact same thing would have happened if it tried to enter the Israeli Airspace or the Airspace of Poland or Germany for instance.

As I said. They made us do this. Smile

I am very worried about this intense cooperation between China and Russia:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/russ...22296.html

Russia is providing China with advanced parachuting abilities to help them takeover Taiwan by landing small Tanks and Special Forces at the Taipei Airport and other open areas on the island.

There is this issue with authoritarian countries. There could be greater unity between China and Taiwan if they decided to mend their ways. If it embraced more democracy, The Taiwanese people would not refuse to reunite with China.

Similarly: If Russia gave up Putin, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Ukraine and many other old Warsaw Pact countries would not resist the “sphere of influence” of Russia: I’M talking about Moscow becoming some sort of economic hub that is similar to the EU. And this hub would have good relations with the EU and China as well.

I think there has to be incentives for all Western companies to help them move out from China and back to the US and the EU and/or to other neutral countries like South-American countries or India.

And I also wish the US had a better president.

I find this as unlikely as the Republic of Ireland or the US agreeing to rule from London...

The claptrap about moving manufacturing back to the EU/US is exactly that. We've benefitted masively from globalisation and trying to impose restrictions on imports from Asia etc. has been demonstrated to be economic suicide more than once.

You seem to be quite sure but I see nothing that would support your statement. As for putler - if not him then ruᛋᛋia will have another dictator at it's head; we're talking about country that knew freedom only for short while between deposing the tsar and Lenin takeover. Scenario in which ruᛋᛋia really democratize is about as likely as Lenin second coming.

ruᛋᛋia is nothing more than world shithole, anus mundi if you want some Latin. Even if razed to the ground I doubt that anything of worth would grow there.

RE: Russia and Ukraine
For the first time since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began, the United States will provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with intelligence for long-range missile strikes against energy infrastructure inside of Russia, senior officials have told the Wall Street Journal.

An order instructing both the Pentagon and intelligence agencies to aid Ukraine with strikes against targets within Russian territory was recently signed by President Donald J. Trump, with U.S. officials asking NATO Allies to provide similar support to Kyiv.

In addition, the U.S. is also weighing the delivery of Tomahawk and Barracuda Cruise Missiles, as well as other American-made ground and air-launched missiles that have ranges of around 500 miles to Ukraine, allowing them to potential strike targets in Russia that are as deep as Moscow.

This is good news so long as they don't slow-walk either decision. I'll believe it when I see it.

For the record, they've already been striking moscow and further afield - the proposed transfers get them bigger payloads at range.

Right -- with their own kit which often is not as capable. Something that can fly TERCOM at 600 mph for 900 miles 50' off the ground is very different from sneaking Bayraktar drones into place at 150 mph at a couple of thousand foot altitude for 200 or so miles.

The proposed transfers give them several different enhancements to capability aside from simple throw-weight.
