Yes, I was going to say after the fall of the USSR the Orthodox Church made a massive re-emergence. And Russia is so corrupt that even with a small religious element there would still be some level of turmoil. The stats are always BS, in the UK there are about 70% Christian, which is a total lie, it's less by a massive margin, more likely <20%. The thing is, Russians, and I know a few who back this up, are very religious people. Communism didn't end religion there, it merely removed it from it's privileged position alongside the Tsarist regime. People continued to be religious and now Putin wants them to be more religious by cosying up to the Orthodox Church. Lets face it, it's a great way to control people. More irreligious and atheistic places are Sweden, France, Denmark, Norway, UK. I find it hard to believe Britain is that atheistic, especially considering their recent actions.
"Sisters, you know only the north; I have traveled in the south lands. There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did--not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the Church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling. So if a war comes, and the Church is on one side of it, we must be on the other, no matter what strange allies we find ourselves bound to."

There is no way that the population is 70% Christian. No way. I don't care what the figures say. No way. The only way that figure could be arrived at would be if the church was claiming non religious people towards it's figures without them really being theists - things such as asking loaded questions like "what were you baptised as?" rather than "are you a silly twat that believes in shit?" I'm sure I read somewhere another study that had 44% of the UK population holding religious beliefs and that seems to compare to my life experience more realistically. Nobody I know is openly theist (though some undoubtably are they keep quiet), but I know plenty of open atheists.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
I see an atheist nation to be peaceful if only the vast majority of people are willingly abandoning religion for logic and reasoning on free will. communism isnt one of those, they forcefully shut down religions and churches to achieve the complete devotion of citizens to the single political party, this has nothing to do with intellectual knowledge. It cant be peaceful if it uses violence and terror. I came from Vietnam, they let people practice whatever religion they want to but all the place of worship is government-monitored and most of the time they are ran by government which is filled with political propagandas. Anybody who wishes to gain religious independence from the state would result in imprisonment or torture.
Being an atheist and as against religion as I am, I would never support any nation that take away the rights of the people to practice whatever religion they want to, neither would I ever support any nation that force everybody to practice a particular religion or non-religion. Probably because those who tried to gather the data ended up with a bullet in their heads. Also anyone jumping up and calling 'bullshit' over Korean's peace rating will also end up dead. Eh, if zee Koreans say they are peaceful, then they must be peaceful.... It is very secular over here. I only have 3 religious family members. They are old and not very well informed. But even they don't go to church. A few attend church, but not many. Most are apatheistic. Just don't give a shit.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity. Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist. You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them. The only christian people I know are the polish family next door and my mum. I know quite a few people and thats the way it is here. You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid. Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis. Quote:The stats are always BS Indeed. I was helping a friend with a geography assignment for a college class she was taking and in pulling up a CIA World Factbook on Argentina it stated that the country was nominally "catholic" 92% and then in parentheses stated "less than 20% practicing." That means that a lot of Argies would need a lot of "practice!" |
