Do people think that having been brought up as a theist gives them more knowledge and insight into arguing against the subject as someone like myself who has never been religious?

Hmmm?

An atheist who had a religious upbringing might understand religion and religious people better than somebody like you Darwinian and that could be a good advantage.
Personally, it's not God I dislike, it's his fan club I can't stand.

Sorry if my curiosity sometimes leads me to pedantry. I am only questioning because I'm curious as to why you think 'X', believe 'Y', are against 'Z', etc, etc, etc. I am only questioning and I have never meant any 'offence'.

As I have said - I am aware you were talking to Adrian, I'm just curious and I hope you don't mind my curiosity.

Whilst I think it's impossible to understand theism without walking in the shoes so to speak, I also think it's absolutely valid how anyone questions it. Any question OF IT is valid IMO.

How long AFTER ceasing to be a theist do you cease to have comprehension of the theist position you presumably had when you were one?

Well immediately you make the logical step obviously your reasoning shifts.

Personally I had a big problem in hating some theism that took me years to get over. I think I still twitch. That's something different tho' I think.

So if you're a theist you have magical powers of comprehension?! Well, you could have fooled me.

RE: Ex Theists
I was told by a born again Christian friend of mine years ago that only those who have been touched by the holy spirit could fully understand the Bible and without this it didn't make any sense.

Go figure...

As freaky and weird as that sounds I find I am forced to agree with it. Levitate
