Are any of you folks from the UK attending the Olympics?
|
It really is. Who would have fucking thought that people would be so derisive and/or angry about whether a person enjoys sports or not? Of all the things to get worked up about.
Jackman, in all fairness, I don't think a single person in this thread called athletes stupid or uneducated. I really don't see where at all that is and think perhaps you are reacting to a bias that stems from outside of this thread?
It is hard to believe this is only the first day of what many Londoners are now calling the tribulations. To the outside world the BBC keeps up a constant round of propaganda with a pretence of normal life existing in britain, but this story is very quickly cracking up, as are many brits.
One has only to monitor normally affable forums to discover the 'fcuk you' rate has reached unprecedented levels. Other signs of stress being british people worrying about the cost of things to their economy, lol. On the good side flights in and out of London seem to be unaffected so far. Of all the things to get worked up about. i don't think this is a downer thread, it's par for the course. lol. when people don't agree with each other they get called idiot. this appears to be just how things go. shell, you're right and i explained as much in one of my posts (i think). it may not have been in this thread, there are a few olympic threads going on. there's definitely some "sports are simple-minded" type of posts that i won't be arsed to look up (lol, yeah i said ... "arsed"). there's other quotes, but i'm not bothered by any of it. stimbo voiced his dislike of sports in the best light - it's just not his cup of tea. that's perfectly fine. i just don't like the pretention of the way that some others have put it, where "if it's not all science all day, then what good is it?"
they can land a rover on mars, yet they still have to stick a human finger up my ass to do a prostate exam?! - ricky gervais
I don't think that is here, either. I know Tiberius is a huge fan of football (Uk, blah) and at least somewhat impressed by rugby. He also knows I like sports (as well as being a nerd) and does not seem to think I am stupid because of it. I just don't see that attitude here in this thread and would hate to see people getting mad at each other over things that weren't said (at least here). Of course, there hasn't been a shortage of claims of ignorance against people who don't like sports in this thread, so I guess we could say the attitude is going both ways, either way.
I couldn't help but notice the Queen looked positively miserable through the whole thing. She didn't smile once and she was quite robotic when she read her statement declaring the games open. Is this what she's usually like in public? It seemed like she was up way past her bedtime.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems? RE: Are any of you folks from the UK attending the Olympics?

Just so we're clear, I actually am a miserable git, though it's more of a general rule regarding life, the Universe and everything than pertaining to the Olympics specifically. As such it's not a conclusion which can safely be drawn from my posts on the subject, merely a lucky guess. Nor does it require any effort on my part; all I have to do is wake up in the morning.
The Queen always looks miserable, whether she's watching the Proms, opening Parliament or wringing a pheasant's neck. She must have a permanent stench just under her nose.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Well, she did a pretty good impression of a corpse. As for the ceremony itself, I really didn't get the whole bit where they had nurses dancing and kids in hospital beds. I was waiting for the parade of old people hooked up to oxygen tanks shuffling along with walkers.

You haven't seen our Olympic squad yet.
