I hear a lot ,lately, about how US christianity has its own 'fundamentalists' who are 'just as extreme' as the Muslim ones.

Christian loons don't kill their daughters for 'dishonouring' the family, they don't start mass riots and storm the embassies of Muslim countries because of some insult that Muslims have made against Christians

There is simply no equivalence at all.

Inquisition anyone? Most countries have reduced the power of their respective religions within the government. Our country (USA) was founded by persons fresh from the Inquisition, ergo the 1st amendment.

Is there anything to really stop them? NO, but it has made it difficult to gain direct power, though the influence on laws is pervasive.

It would appear that Saudi Arabia has allowed significant influence from their religion and we see the result of that today. The new 'Inquisition"?

Of course one thing is the sheer number of sects of the various numb-nuts walking around. None of them trust each other enough - because their invisible friend tells them that THEY are the real xtians - to present a united front.

They are perfectly willing to claim that 80% of the US is "xtian" but then the first thing they do is throw out the catholics, JWs, mormons, 7th Day Adventists, pro-gay episcopalians, etc., etc. and eventually you just get down to a handful of nutty baptists in the Deep South.

A. When have the Fundamentalist Christians given any indication they care about the common people?

B. I think the American police are much more concerned with keeping tabs on the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Edit: min, never met a Christian who believed a JW or a Mormon was a Christian

Of course not. They aren't "True Xtians" but when they want to assert of gross number of jesus freaks they scrape up every bit of horseshit they can find ( even catholics!) to add to the total.
