You kidding? Explosions and fire are fucking beautiful and interesting, man

You kidding? Explosions and fire are fucking beautiful and interesting, man I wanna see something explode in real life. I've only seen it in movies or on the news. It would be great if it was my old elementary school. Only if the kids were out of it, of course. I don't want children to explode. Only sucky institutions.

Are we any closer to understanding why the plant went Big Badah Boom?

There seems to be way too many jokes about something people probably died in.

Tire. Hill. Gas. Lit fuse = Fireball!
Alternately, one can fill a barrel with gas, and have some heavy machinery drop a flame into it. I got to experience that explosion from a mile away... very sexy fire pillar.
Explosions are fun when controlled, and concerning when one isn't expecting them. Or exciting, if you're far enough away and there's nothing you care about near it

Never too many jokes, we've hardly started. People did die in it: this at most adds flavor to the jokes.

It was tiny, it was good (people died), and it went boom.

Bet it wouldn't be as satisfying as you think. Better to watch it on TV (or at least from very far away). It feels like someone hit your kidney with a sledgehammer, your ears ring and you get dizzy - your vision blurs and it;s hard to remember your name. You spend some time stumbling around like a moron but most people collapse and go unconscious. Your ears ring for awhile (and it feels like someone stuck a knitting needle all the way to your brain). Alot of people piss and shit themselves before or after this point. Afterwards, everything is sore, and a pencil dropping can make you tear up without understanding why(for some).
(all of this - mind you, is from a relatively "safe" distance and/or no shrapnel or debris comes your way, a category which would include pieces of bone and teeth-and buttons)
Heard a story from a medic about a guy, by the by, who had one side or the other of his jaw shattered by a particularly nasty blast wave. Knocked out his teeth - which promptly lodged themselves in the flesh of the back f his throat. Good stuff
Just figured I'd add a little downer to the thread.
You're all welcome.

I assume you mean what started the fire that caused the explosion. It's not difficult to figure out why it went boom. Add a large fire to a warehouse full of a substance that is not only explosive but acts as an accelerant, and you'll get a really big, fiery explosion out of it.
I'm guessing that the only hope they have of learning what caused the fire is eyewitness reports, since the warehouse (and a fair bit of the area around it) has probably been reduced to a crater.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
