Even if we are to accept your premise that all theists are illogical, you are forgetting that people can follow different logic for their religious beliefs than they do for the rest of their life. Desiring a purpose can do that to a person.

In 2005, I hired a guy who turned out to be a Muslim extremist. One day I walk in to the conference room and see him prying! I said "WTF are you doing, I have clients here for a meeting" he told me that it's within his rights to pray.
I said "fuck you, I am not paying you to pray on my dime. Do it on your own dime. You are fired"
He threaten to sue me and I told him to kiss my ass and never heard from him again.
The moral of the story is, if you give an inch, they want a foot.
maybe none of you had to deal with this kind of shit and I hope you never do, but that's one of the realities of running a business. Not everyone you choose will be whom you hoped for.
Later I find out that this guy was trying to convert my guys into Islam and fight against the infidels.
No way I am getting in to this shit of a mess. I rather be sued and convicted than to be a part of this kind of bull shit.

Shouldn't have fired him for praying. Should have fired him for trying to convert people though. It's not an appropriate workplace discussion. I'm not saying you shouldn't have fired the guy, just do it for good reasons or they are gonna come bite you on the ass.

For a manager, you seem to know very little about labor law, including the idea of reasonable accomodation.

Employers are supposed to make reasonable accommodations for religious beliefs (ie: you can't fire a Jew for refusing to work on Saturdays), though this might only apply to larger employers. Firing someone for praying is setting yourself up for a lawsuit. And asking potential enployees what their religious beliefs are is discriminatory. I hope you have a good lawyer.
