The End Game of Atheism
RE: The End Game of Atheism
(June 26, 2013 at 1:09 pm)ShadowWolf1986 Wrote: Look, Science is flawed because it is performed by men. I shouldn't have to expose my children to such things if I choose not to.

Religion is also "performed by men." The difference being that scientists can correct faulty work. Most theists believe in a perfect and inerrant god, who cannot get things wrong. Religion is typically designed to resist change, if not outright forbid it. People may retard scientific progress from time to time, but it seems that over the long haul we continue to learn and progress.

Science might take a step back for each step forward, but it seems to me that religion is designed so as not to take any steps at all.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I am asking you to tell us how you tested your religion. I don't want your life story and I don't want how you came to believe what you believe. All I want is how you tested your religious beliefs. If us as atheists are asked to present evidence of our own experiment to test our disbelief we would happily comply.
You are dodging my question because you probably haven't tested your beliefs at all. You were probably born into your religion. Probably grew up with. Probably just accepted it. Probably read your holy book and had a good feeling inside, so decided it was true.

You NSA spooks know it all don't you? Oh wait, you're just an internet troll making wild assumptions.

To answer your question, I refer you back to my original response. This is an infinite loop, so feel free to get off of it anytime.

Asked a different way, what is the end goal of Atheism?

(June 26, 2013 at 10:17 am)Savannahw Wrote: It isn't an end game. From what I have read on your posts, I think you are reading to much into atheism.
Atheism is simply saying god does not exist.
That is the only thread that ties atheist together. We might disagree about EVERYTHING else.
I personally think, you might want to read up on different atheistic and antagonistic positions.

And then you continued from there.

Now please explain where I lied to you or acted in a hypocritical manner. I agree I insulted you, but then I have a policy of calling people out when they act like thick-headed douches.

Ah, one institute that man built is superior to the another one they built. Yet yours is better than mine. I got it. So what goes on in the Holy of Holies of Science again?

RE: The End Game of Atheism
people with irrational beliefs are very unwilling to justify their beliefs. They get offended if you ask them to, even if they brought it up to begin with. They claim they believe something, and it's true and that they've arrived at it rationally. Then you feign interest to be polite and ask for details, then they say, I don't have to justify my beliefs to you.

No you don't, but don't expect anyone to take your word for it then. So you can stop any time you like now if you don't wish to justify your beliefs.

You are a child who is refusing to answer a question because you realise that you don't have an answer and that maybe you are not justified in believing what you believe. It is frankly pathetic. I have restrained myself from insulting you since this thread started (unlike many of my fellows) but you are really pushing me now.

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

I was born not believing in god and kept on not believing.

Your turn.

So you don't despise science - you just choose to teach your kids from a 3000 year old book instead rather than exposing them to science?

Do try to make at least a modicum of sense.

Because history never repeats itself, therefore history is for those ignorant Theists. I am continually amazed at Atheists aversion to history.

Could you keep your argument in one place for a second?

You were arguing in favour of teaching your kids religion over science, saying science is flawed and religion delivers.

When I answered that question you claimed to be all in favour of science and asked where I got the impression that you weren't from.

I answered that question and now you bring up history - which is not religion.

Are we expecting the Bible to repeat itself? Lets hope not - we have moved on morally massively since those times.

All Theist are "thick-headed douches" though, so you had no choice, right? Atheism has really turned you into a sweet person, don't you think? Is that growling I hear? Oh, better get back to responding to you so you can go for another strafing run.

That was one response from one person explaining the fundamental basic of what Atheism is, which I already understand. Some others made different responses, and others responded with other topics.

Red herring anyone? Served with a slice of hypocrisy. Where are all the confession threads here on the forums? Where are the volumes of details all of you have spewed forth as a requirement to speak on these lofty forums? Or am I subject to it because someone called me out? Well, I call all of you out, so let's all lock ourselves away in a room and type out all of the details over the course of say 30 days, and then meet back here for a one big confession party. After that we'll have cake and punch.

You're putting words in my mouth. I never said that. Straw manning makes your arguments so much easier, eh? This is why I said this should be the Hall of Logical Fallacy.
