That was the point of the sacrifice. I've got to expand because I like the subject... :p Do you accept that humans are not perfect? Then you accept we have reason to feel guilty at some point, if we face up to our limitations. People found that giving something they prized felt like they were redressing a balance. Far better to be charitable than throw it away, but they thought payment to god/s weren't to be made to any man. Debt is owed to the debtor. Personal debts of imperfection are owed to whatever is perceived as perfect. We strive to overcome our imperfection. Some philosophies suggest we should learn to be happy with our imperfection. This is a model of an unjust world where there is reduced reason to act fairly. It's easy to see how humans thought sacrifice a better model.
Well, since the crucifixtion of Jesus never happened, I guess it doesn't matter how it supposedly helped the human race.

Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

So, people used sacrificing something valuable to them as some sort of self-punishment over the guilt they feel? I've got an idea. How about dealing with imperfection by trying to truly understand why and how we are imperfect and coming up with solutions to lessen the impact of those imperfections? But no, the better idea is to just spill some blood and say, "all is forgiven." RE: One question for Christians

You missed off "symbolically" faith.
People do it all the time (make sacrifices). it's kinda a human thing. There's a reason for that. Yeah I think I covered the practical alternative angle. I even credited it in your favour. I don't think we have trumped the theological angle yet. I don't see it as possible. We already have a perfect solution. That isn't to say we might not find better. Self punishment... yes indeed. Absolutely I think we're duty bound to try and resolve our problems. To defer to God would be anti God IMO. (June 27, 2013 at 5:19 pm)DeistPaladin Wrote: Just one. The answer is simplicity itself: because God said so. Even if you can not understand that the wages of all sin is death, and Jesus literally died in your place to attone for your sin you still can get because God said so. Because in the end God is the one who is judging you not Monty python. Therefore it is by His rules his standard that you will be judged. If you grant that, then ok. The bible supports slavery, will you say that is good, because god said so, and it's his standards you live by? Christians would often say this part is a metaphor, this part is the old testament, jesus didn't really mean sell everything you have, on and on and on. If you can really interpret what god actually commanded, and what he meant as a metaphor and which part of the old testament doesn't apply, It's high time you revamped the bible so the rest of us aren't so confused.
