"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful" - Edward Gibbon (Offen misattributed to Lucius Annaeus Seneca or Seneca the Younger) (Thanks to apophenia for the correction)
'I am driven by two main philosophies:
Know more about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you' - Neil deGrasse Tyson
"Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." - Mark Twain

It's true it's just a pity that it isn't obvious to everyone already.
I mean, I just can't help thinking "No shit Sherlock".

Oy...freaking...vey. I've said this because I think that being of the same species matters very little. It's too broad to actually give people a common identity, it lacks solidarity and the ability of being a glue of any kind.

When an alien invasion promoting world wide eradication of our species occurs, you'll be passing feathers from eating crow!

Yes, a Sikh version of John Lennon. I do get it, but why, merely because we agree we as a species should not get violent, subject me to political correctness to the point I cant challenge his beliefs? Yes, we are the same species. But it is also fucking absurd to kill the fact finding messenger because it conflicts with your superstition.
If our species never questioned social norms, our species never would have left the caves.
It is one thing to value human rights, it is another to demand taboos because you are afraid of being wrong.

I'm also quite against the whole being politically correct instead of actually being correct thing. Isn't the sign just to say that you can squabble over all the things we're different about, but at the end of the day to remember that we share commonalities despite our differences?
We all have family, people we care about, worry about work and shit like that. It's not the disagreeing that's the problem, it's how some people use differences to differentiate into groups, and it allows them to dehumanize people on the other side, and do horrible things to them.

I do sometimes when participating in historical reenactions. Besides, that guy is Sikh, his religion mandates him to wear it at all times.

Alien invasion, yeah. Until that happens, we Turks will have conquered the world already, so don't worry, we'll handle them. I hope they have skulls so we can make cups from them!
