One question for Christians

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

MissLuckie! Welcome!

Is this supposed to be analogous to something Christians believe? If so, you lost me.

HiyaSmile In answer to your question, yes. Why did I lose you?

What? You don’t believe that the historical Jesus existed? Really?

No, I don't. Care to share why you do?

Why such hostility? We’re all friends here. Tongue

How are his analogy and mine, non cohesive to your beliefs again?

Hey I agree we're all brothers and sistersSmile Of course, I'll disown a few who downright want to hurt their fellow man. Did you know mental abuse is equivocal to physical abuse? Unhealthy mentality can cause abnormalities biologically. Were you aware that your bible teaches doctrine that causes unhealthy mental states and is responsible for untold amounts of suicides because of its' very existence and terminology?
Don't feel prosecuted though, if my great great great grand daddy's book told people they could fly with their mind and they jumped off a bridge: I'd disown that one too.

As for my analogy, you really did miss the point didn't you? Lemme fix that for you.

Some guy who has no records pertaining to his existence rose from the dead and absolved all my sins for eternity!

I have pictures of Jesus --oh wait no I don't.
I saw it happen--oh wait, no I didn't.
I heard about it from someone who witnessed---oh wait, no I haven't.
I have irrefuteable proof that he did or can re-animate-- Oh, yeah, nevermind no I don't.
I have scientific proof that the events surrounding gods death geologically happened-- Oh wait, NO I DON'T!

WOW though, right? He must be god, that man. I mean you have a book that says so, and until you can do what I say he did, he's GOD.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

And your point would be ??? ... um Jesus became a deity because he had a lineage of jews??? What exactly is your point here?!?

Again, what is your point here?? missluckie was pointing out your jesus' complete lack of a legitimate lineage and you are over here spewing forth absurd rhetoric about being Jesus' little retarded brother.

* all contents therein may be changed or ammended without prior notice....GOD

That means everything is back on the table........right????

EXAMPLE: Statler strolls up to the heavenly gate and says "father I have lived my life according to your word"..(or whatever version plays out in your head)...and god says " yes you have my child...but you know what....screw you"...then he flips you the bird and drop kicks you to the coals.....because..........................

God has the right to do with His creation as He pleases.

seriously Statler how do you work your mind into a state that can worship this??????

You’re conflating two different issues. Simply because God has the right to do whatever He pleases with His creation, does not necessitate that God will lie. It is contrary to God’s character to lie, He will never do so. His promises in scripture will come to pass. I am not sure what point you’re trying to even make. We all get better than we deserve, so complaining about what we do get is nonsense. You’re no different than the former death row inmate who is complaining about the price of gas after being pardoned by the Governor. None of us even deserve to be here right now.

SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT HERE:

According to Statler's words...not mine
"God has the right to do with His creation as He pleases"

Does Statler's god not have the right to tell him he will never lie to his creation and then do so???

God is the ultimate example of "might makes right" so he does have the right to lie to humanity if he chooses. Christians believe that he chooses not to do so, and it's not an illogical stance to take. After all, what does god have to fear with being honest? None of his creation can bring him to justice if they didn't like what he was doing to them. You listen to theists explain god's nature, and you get the impression that he's the sort of fellow who would have his henchmen saw your fingers off for some frivolous reason, and then make you thank him for it because at least he left you your palms. And forearms. AND HEAD.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I forgot you were in here! Let me rephrase that, “Most of us are friends here!” Tongue It’s rather telling that you consider someone an enemy just because they believe in something you claim to know doesn’t exist.

It won’t. Tongue

(September 9, 2013 at 11:02 pm)missluckie26 Wrote: HiyaSmile In answer to your question, yes. Why did I lose you?

…because I do not see how it is analogous. The ministry of Christ is based upon eye witness testimony and we do have proof of its validity. Since a miracle by definition is something that is scientifically impossible, I do not see how that point was relevant either.

Quote:

No, I don't. Care to share why you do?

I am just shocked, you seem to be far more mainstream than that. You’d be hard pressed to find two historians that do not believe Jesus really existed. Even Dawkins believes that Jesus existed.

Quote: Hey I agree we're all brothers and sistersSmile Of course, I'll disown a few who downright want to hurt their fellow man. Did you know mental abuse is equivocal to physical abuse? Don't feel prosecuted though, if my great great great grand daddy's book told people they could fly with their mind and they jumped off a bridge: I'd disown that one too.

So you reject any claim that may lead to mental hardship regardless of whether it is true or not?

Quote: Some guy who has no records pertaining to his existence rose from the dead and absolved all my sins for eternity!

No records of his existence? We have this wonderful thing called the New Testament.

Quote: I have pictures of Jesus --oh wait no I don't.

Do you have pictures of Plato? Was he a myth too?

Quote: I saw it happen--oh wait, no I didn't.

Have you seen Plato?

Quote: I heard about it from someone who witnessed---oh wait, no I haven't.

Do you have manuscripts written by eye witnesses to Plato? We have manuscripts who originate from eye witnesses of Jesus.

Quote: I have irrefuteable proof that he did or can re-animate-- Oh, yeah, nevermind no I don't.

Do you have sound proof Plato existed?

Quote: I have scientific proof that the events surrounding gods death geologically happened-- Oh wait, NO I DON'T!

Science doesn’t deal with proof, so if that’s your standard then you can believe in the existence of nothing.

Quote: WOW though, right? He must be god, that man. I mean you have a book that says so, and until you can do what I say he did, he's GOD.

Jesus is God, we know this has to be true.

.

Why are you struggling with this? God has the right to do whatever He pleases with His creation, and yet there are certain things God would never do because they are contrary to His character. That’s pretty simple.

(September 10, 2013 at 2:28 pm)DeistPaladin Wrote: No.

Well that settles that! DeistPaladin says God does not have the right to do something; therefore God does not have the right to do that thing!

I love discussing with you because I always agree with exactly half of what you write. Tongue If you deserve to have your head cut off and you only have your fingers cut off are you really in a position to complain? That seems a bit ridiculous.
