This was was after the reformation so their power to do hold scientific discovery back was very much diminished. Nothing in science disproves or suggest the non-existence of God of course something to stress factually.

The Church has to agree with him whether they like it or not he's the supreme authority of Gods Church on Earth founded in unbroken succession from St Peter who was given the keys to heaven by Jesus himself.

Tell that to all the "clarifications" of the current pope's words, whenever he says something that challenges orthodoxy, like "be cool to atheists."

I am a Young Earth Creationist on a quest: I am sincerely interested in reading EVERY argument against YEC.
Brief background: After studying creationism, I was encouraged to see how strong this model has become over the recent decade.
It caused me to want to search out and read arguments AGAINST creation. And the more I read them, the more convinced I became: the creation model is actually very logically solid.
So, if you have any other good ones, please post them here and I will read them.
**REQUEST: PLEASE keep this thread on topic: posting challenges to YEC.
I am not interested in starting a debate, nor defending myself. I REALLY do want good information in response, from credible sources when possible (not just random thoughts).
(Fellow creationists: please don’t jump in and ramble, just listen. In fact, if you do that same research I’ve done, you might too come out very encouraged by what you believe)

So I see that you have not specifically said what you are arguing against. It's easy to argue against a single thing that we know is wrong, for instance I will emphatically agree with you that Darwinism is wrong and doesn't address the true mechanics of evolution even at a rudimentary level, however, that doesn't mean that evolution itself doesn't take place.
Now I will say that theory of the big bang is also wrong, and I've said this many times. It cannot account for the creation of time, it can only account for the creation of matter within "space-time"; and there are other ways to view the universe. If you already have time, then you can have a universe self-create by the laws of physics. But even that is purely theoretical, and only an idiot - or someone as infatuated as Einstein was in his own worldview - would take it as "gospel truth".
Do you read the Bible and conclude that Pi is equal to 3? Of course not. Just because it uses a figure that may not be "exact" doesn't mean that it's wrong, and if it is then you can write out the exact decimal amount of Pi?
Why do humans share ANY DNA with mice do you think?

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea.-LINK
"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

They have to show mutual respect for different religious beliefs these days they can't call for Crusades or burn heretics.
He probably wouldn't kiss Dawkins God Delusion book though.

And that somehow absolves the church?

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House
“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

I wouldn't make any excuses for the medieval Catholic Church it was corrupt and despotic. There was a reason why the reformation happened. The Catholic Church of today is kind of ok I guess, apart from the pedophilia/rape and that kind of thing. Can't say I agree with their stance on contraception either that's a good way to spread some AIDS in Africa. That's why I think the Eastern Orthodox Church would be the better option of the two as they both have the same roots and share much the same beliefs/practices. The Eastern Orthodox Church doesn't have all the baggage historical or modern.

"Supreme authority", like Darth Vader?
You don't get the entire way the monotheistic god characters of the books of Abraham were written.
In realty, both polytheists and monotheists of antiquity had a hierarchy and fortune was falsely attributed to "the divine right of kings", so the gods they concocted reflected their own desires of success and immortality.
The lesser in those given societies, at best, were tolerated as long as they didn't upset the social order.
Sure your god is loving, as long as you kiss his ass. But just like a Mafia boss or dictator, one peep against him, and you get your ass barbecued.
And "heaven"? That is a another stupid concept. The Egyptians had their concepts of "afterlife". They had their heros who "ascended" to "glory" to "sit in judgment".
So what happens when you get to this cosmic utopia? You spend eternity saying "dude you are the best", doing nothing but that? I like complements myself when I do something someone appreciates, but I would get fucking annoyed if someone stalked me.
And what about the people you know left behind who didn't make it? If you do remember them up there, and feel pain, which any empathetic person would, how can it be called heaven? If you you cant feel that empathy then you are a monster. If your memory of pain is erased by God then you are a pawn, a lab rat, a programed bot, not human.
