Of course it thrives when you fail to even grasp the atheist position. It's like we're playing a baseball game and you show up to the wrong field and think you've won because the other team isn't there.

Taking the christian fondness of circular reasoning and the pigeon strutting on the chess board.. Well, this is what it looks like:
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I would be inclined to agree that one way to weaken the faith of a Christian is to have him listen to other Christians for a while.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

If growing up means beicoming rude like you, no. I want to be kind, loving person which is a dying breed this times.
You say you're not here to brag about how kind you are. One good way to show that is to not brag about how kind you are. Especially given how unkind you're being to Rationalman who genuinely holds the belief that trying to control how people express themselves is much ruder than using words some people consider 'bad'.
Getting hung up on the words people use to express themselves prevents you from listening to what they're really saying. That's on you, not them.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

While it grates when they go on about how they were cured of their homosexuality or something like that it still doesn't grate quite as much as reading one of those New Atheist books.
Come all ye faithful joyful and triumphant.

Upsetting your apple cart would be quite grating, you're right.

Sword of Christ Wrote:Logic, reason, history, personal experience, evidence and a little bit of faith thrown in to hold it together. You do need a little of that but not too much as the existence of God ought to be reasonably self evident
God is not self-evident. Things that are self-evident are not things which inspire debate. Gravity is self-evident. Nobody disputes the existence of gravity. The overwhelming majority of people in the world don't believe in your god. Maybe they believe in some other god or in a nature spirit or maybe nothing. Maybe they believe in a god with the same origins but has characteristics so divergent that it may as well be a different god altogether. Your own god is your personal invention.
You also seem to confuse rationalization and confirmation bias with logic and reason.

Something that is self-evident doesn't need evidence, faith, or argument to establish its truth. That's what self-evident means. Your suggesting that we need either faith or evidence is tacit admission that it is not self-evident. Moreover, whenever somebody has to point out that something is self-evident, it's usually because it isn't, and they want to undermine the credibility of my skeptical complaints sans providing any actual argument. It's a subtle form of poisoning the well, and is the rhetorical equivalent of your parents saying, "Because I said so."
