Oooooh, someone might be tempted to abuse it. Pussies.
Doesn't make anyone a pussy for wanting to promote positivity instead of negativity. Your analogy of wearing a hijab is completely stupid.
I made no analogy to wearing hijabs. Please re-read my post - it was about pussy.
And I stand by my statement that not allowing negative rep. is silly.

You're welcome to it, of course. But still, we have got the power! *cue He-Man*, so it's not gonna change
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Ah my bad I misunderstood the joke. Just got it though, pretty good one.
Still, I don't think it's silly, people would abuse it. It's proven that they would on other forums. I'd rather have a vibe of "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" than a vibe of "THIS GUY'S A FUCKING DOUCHE REP WAR REP WAR".
The rep system as it is allows for positive feedback, and if there is any criticism of said user, you still do it in a positive way that is constructive, rather than beating down on a member because you think their posts suck. You can do enough of that in the general forum.

Nah, there is no such thing as a 'rep war'. Each side gets one shot; more like a 'rep duel'.
It is more honest and accurate to have + and - rep.

I guess that depends on what you think the rep system should portray.

No biased interpretations there!
I'm glad you don't have access to such a system here. Just you, and specifically you.

I think reporting a post does the same thing as neg-repping a post, just more effectively and fairly. Neg rep does turn boards into popularity contests, and message boarding turns into a kind of gaming. I know I'm not Mr. Popularity on here, but I do try to contribute thoughtfully, and would hate to be negrepped out of privilege to this board just because I'm me.
I may be biased, but I think I'm fairly OK.
