Hell, I've had people call it abuse even when they've had the circumstances fully explained to them. It's sad.
I'm not sure its appropriate that sexual play need have a public dimension. Gay people have been subject to abuse for holding hands in public or for kissing in Public -something that doesn't happen for gay people. BDSM is something people do and doesn't go to the root of identity as homosexuality does. Straight BDSM people can hold hands or kiss in public with no issues.

I just find that, depending on the intensity and longevity of the kink play, it sometimes tends to leach into how the partners interact outside of that. I'm not saying, like, wearing a collar around all the time or anything like that, but there are subtle signs and references that can be misconstrued, and the "bdsm is abuse" stereotype is still out there.

BDSM is as legitimately 'in need' of a rights movement as LGB All of these are attraction/fucking-other-people-related. The only one different from any of these is T... which took a lot of work to get slapped onto the end of the other three, but there you have it. And I don't think it needs a 'rights movement' so much as a perspective shift. Which will happen *on its own* with 'the next generation'. Two gen down? It's done beyond done. Quote:People can face much bigotry if they are openly kinky, just as gay people do. I think gays & kinksters are natural allies as no only do these categories often overlap, & both are persecuted as sexual minorities. Absolutely. Absolutely. Absolutely. Why in the name of all things that might be considered holy and/or sacred is *people having sex with one another* among them? Can you imagine the crap a man would have to put up with if people knew that he was a sub? This hits more upon men being socially trained to be total fucking jerkwads than it does anything else. And that wasn't even feminism. That whole 'man up and take it'/'be a man!' doctrine is fucking sicking. Women get their own 'dainty little princess'/'thin like skeleton' shit... you know: I could well be considered to completely within my rights to stab every proponent of such in the eye socket with a sharp stick. Also: firsthand. Except the man part, though I cannot say whether or not applicable individuals thought I was or was not (as I don't know...) I'm pretty kinky but this is a ridiculous idea.
There are no rights being taken away from people who are into BDSM. They can get married, have an education, have whatever job you want. In my own experience of going out with women the majority are kinky in someway and you're more likely to face discrimination from them if you aren't kinky you will just be considered boring. Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them. Impersonation is treason.
BDSM makes people prudish!!!!11111oneeleven!
I have to say the OP made me laugh. With so many people screaming discrimination for this, that, and the other thing...I say, why the fuck not? Now we need a color for the ribbons people will wear. Is black already taken?
What hardships do BDSM people really face? What kind of rights are denies to them? What kind of legislation or social activism could really help them, especially in those movements?
Based on what I know now, I don't think educating people on BDSM would be a bad thing at all, but I can't imagine such a movement being as big as the gay rights movement or womens' lib since it doesn't look like the issues coming up aren't going to be as significant as employment discrimniation, housing discrimination, sexual harassment and the right to marry.

Apparently as long as a man beats his wife for sexual reasons it is okay. If a man spanks his wife non sexually because she doesnt keep house clean it is wrong. If he does it because he is horny than it is fine. ATHEIST MORALITY!!!
