Near death experiences

Near death experiences
So less than an hour ago I got my prescription (Seroquel) from super one and was crossing a busy street for the mall to get a case for my cell phone. So all the cars in one lane were stopped at a stop sign. My plan was to run to the center of the street and wait for a clear coast in the other busy lanes. Well the truck in front of me slowed down to almost a stop, so to not keep him/her waiting, I began to dash to the other side. I stopped dead in my tracks when a blue vehicle came flying past him.

Now, if that blue vehicle had been a second later I wouldn't have stopped and would have gone rushing in front of him. Without lightning quick reaction speed, I'd have gotten hit. That is the closest I've come to getting hit by a car and I'll be very careful jay walking unless the street is remarkably clear. Unless I want to make a living doing wheelchair porn. Tongue

This summer, (27th of July), I was helping friends sell products at a market in Rochester MN. It was hot and humid, so when things weren't busy I went to a stream nearby, stripped down to my boxers, and went swimming. The rapids from a nearby small irrigation damn would push me down the stream which was fun. I began to cross the river from the otherside and instead of being pushed down I got sucked in. I tried to swim frantically in all directions but I could go a certain distance only to be pushed back to the same place. I called in vain for help and was ready to meet my maker, treading rough water and exhausted.

Eventually I began to go under the water and kick off the rocks. At this time I was having fun and no longer scared of death. Eventually I got far enough away. To my pleasant surprise, the lucky rapids were pushing me away. I still had no control as they pushed me under a bridge into larger rapids. I thought, "here we go again, i'm fucked".

I made it shortly to a sand bank. When I stood up, my eyesight was extremely blurred, had a splitting headache, felt sick (like throwing up), and could barely walk. This tells me that oxygen deprivation and exhaustion probably weren't far from casing loss of consciousness and claiming my life.

Don't ever drowned! Angry It sucks ass!

Have you ever had a near death experience?

I very nearly drowned when I was 14 - during a church youth group whitewater rafting trip. I don't recommend it - drowning or church youth groups.

In late 2011, I had a bilateral pulmonary embolism. Nothing says "you're dying" quite like being unable to get sufficient blood into your lungs.

January 2013, pneumonia (complication from influenza) - bad enough that I had to be intubated and put into an induced coma for the better part of a week. That was the closest one - had I not sought medical care, AF would have needed a new moderator. Incidentally, this experience is what hammered home to me the idea that death is not necessarily something to be afraid of.

Never had an "experience", though.

I just meant an experience where you almost died. Not a white light or burning bush. Wow! U have had some close calls. Doesn't sound like you suffer PTSD from any of them.

I nearly drowned when someone righted a boat (luckily not too big) on top of me - I luckily managed to pull myself out of the water as I was about to run out of breath. No experience though.

Nearly drowned at the age of 7 at the beach. Didin't take away my love of water.

Had a motorcycle accident around 10 years ago. Broken bones, etc.

While the ambulance crew were getting me into the bus, my heart stopped - first true indication of a non-diagnosed heart condition. I was out for nearly 2 minutes.

No supernatural experiences.

Once i woke up in the middle of the night and when i opened my eyes and looked up i saw my cat jumping down on me from a cabinet behind me, lol Big Grin She scared the shit out of me! I have survived Smile

But on a serious note i barely remember this, but when i was around 5 years old, our family was helping my mom's grandparents on their farm in the summertime. They had a big field and we were helping on a part which was pretty steep and elevated.
Anyway i was teasing my brother and he started chasing me, naturally i started to runaway. After couple seconds we ended up really close to the edge of the field and we almost fell off. Our heads hanged almost upside down. I guess that's my closest near-death experience Tongue

Nope, the PTSD came from something entirely different.
