Argument #2: Evolution Of Species
RE: Argument #2: Evolution Of Species

I don't think that someone who believes God is the creator is being dishonest. Misguided, yes, but not dishonest. What I do regard as dishonest is taking the attitude of "This is how I think God ought to have done it so I'm ignoring all evidence that he did it a different way."

Did you read that article which points out how Genesis can be interpreted to support evolution?

How apt.
Quote:Read Genesis 1 for clarity:
And then read Genesis 2 to undermine any "clarity" provided by the first account. Which is what happens when you mash two versions of an ancient story together.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Rev, why do you think that it is compelling to just make assertions? You understand that it is not saying anything at all to just say these things you've put in blue. You are not arguing anything. You are making inane assertions.

Not that it really needs to be done, but just to prove, yet again, that ICR lies. They create false claims, and show that the evidence doesn't add up. It is a common creationist tactic.
ConMen Wrote:But despite Bada's optimistic assessment of the study's results, the fact is that after decades of experiments, scientists are no closer to creating life in the lab than Miller and Urey were in the 1950s.
In this example, they have made it look like the Miller Urey experiment set out to create life. And since they didn't do that, they failed miserably, right? Wrong.

Wikipedia Wrote:Specifically, the experiment tested Alexander Oparin's and J. B. S. Haldane's hypothesis that conditions on the primitive Earth favored chemical reactions that synthesized more complex organic compounds from simpler organic precursors.

Literally the third line in the wikipedia page. All it would have taken is 30 seconds of research to see that yet again, the con men have had you. The only way creationists can argue against facts is to misconstrue them and lie.

Let's face it, Rev. You are not interested in looking at or considering anything that runs even slightly contrary to your worldview. You are intellectually dishonest, and sometimes overtly dishonest, and you are supremely disrespectful of everyone else's intelligence by repeatedly posting ridiculous links.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Can you explain what you mean by 'kind'? I do not need any fancy language, simply what you understand a 'kind' to mean in your own words.

I am not claiming you are wrong, I just don't understand what you mean by the term and that confusion makes any meaningful conversation impossible, contrary to the goals of a discussion forum I believe.

Gen 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

So sharks and whales and cod are all the same 'kind'?
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

First you invoked that God can do anything, literally anything, a kind of magic, and then you claim you don't invoke magic.

One of these statements is a lie. Which one is it, Rev?

Regardless, that ERVs can be made consistent with the God hypothesis by invoking magic doesn't make them any less strong as evidence for evolution, as they are consistent with that hypothesis as well. They are a startling confirmation of common descent even IF you could achieve the same result with 'magic'. Do you have any actual evidence that God rather than evolution did it, or are you gonna settle for invoking magic as an answer?

This one has been beaten to death and now rev is just preaching. Is there an argument number 3?

Did you really think the likes of Revs could ever have had another purpose for being here than to preach, using whatever disguise they imagined would help them get through the vigilance of those who have become inured to normal modes of christain proselytizing?
