That's why God called him righteous.
Someone said that the Christians would dodge the question by saying God would not ask that of us. Well call it a dodge if you like but, I know my God well enough to know He would not ask that of Christians, I know that through trust and faith. This is why I can live a very comfortable and reasonable life with God, I know He is smarter than the atheist here that think God would ask us such. I do not have to worry about such silly and unreasonable things atheist pull out of their butts.

Well it was pulled out of your bible, so yes a place full of shit would be an accurate discription.

Anywho, I agree with you that your god would never ask of you such a request. This is because your god is incapable of asking anything of you that you would not ask of yourself.

If I were absolutely certain I was asked by a God to sacrifice a child I would. I'd surely in that situation be also certain the kid is going to go sit in magic always happy land. Why wouldn't you want to send a kid there? If you believed of course.

I don't think knowing there's a god is the same as believing in always happy land.

Sure, I'm just assuming that's the kind of God deal were talking about. The one with the eternal good or bad depending on how well you suck the big G's balls. If we're talking just serving a God for the sake of serving a God then no. If me and the kid get eternal epicness then it seems like the best option. Without more context its hard to really say yes or no for sure.

It's fun to watch believers rationalize human sacrifice, as if God's last minute reversal (funny how a being who exists outside of time can somehow change his mind...or act within time at all for that matter) negates the other instances of child sacrifice in which God seems very aroused, such as Jephthah (a "hero of faith") who sacrificed his own daughter as an oath to Yahweh. Then of course there is the entire crux of the Christian faith, which demands human sacrifice as a substitute for sin: "How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[c] so that we may serve the living God!" (Hebrews 9 has a lot more disgusting things to say--look it up). Umm, sorry but no. The poor, lost, deluded soul will grasp at straws in attempts to justify simply anything, no matter how absurd or profane. There is a label typically given to this type of person: psychotic.

I think I misunderstood when I replied before. I meant if you were certain of both rather than knowing one and just believing the other.

No, I would not slay my kid in response to a voice in my head. But then I don't hold any basically simple beliefs which compel me to do the bidding of a higher power.

Are there any punishments if I don't comply?

...either way, I probably wouldn't. I'd try to seek professional help asap.

No, that's what you're doing by comparing this with Loki at all: Loki commands the people to kneel after a clear show of force, while holding a weapon, in a threatening manner, representing clear duress. The question being asked is whether one would obey an order from god, with the format and presentation of that order recalling the story of Abraham and Isaac from the bible, a story where no duress was used.

I believe the stuff about Abraham was added to the OP after I read it and started my response. That was not the context of my replies.

It's all hypothetical anyways. :p
