Fortunately I don't think hypothetical me has a hypothetical kid for me to hypothetically kill.

I wouldn't worship a god who expected me to sacrifice even you. You are trying to make a big deal through assumption, an assumption that's not going to happen, one I know I do not have to worry about. I deal in reality, it's you who wants to make up fairy tales through assumptions and you call me delusional. GC
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

What other lesson would there be? Even if you trust that he wouldn't take your children away, you should still have the mindset that you would kill your child for him if he really wanted you to. "Even you" Charming But your god expected Abrahamto do just that. If, therefore, he appeared to you, and there was no doubt it was him, and he asked you to sacrifice your child to prove your devotion, would you do it? The question wasn't about god, it's about you, the person being asked: the important part isn't "would god actually do this?" it's "how far astray from what you understand your morals to be would you go, if directed to by your ultimate authority figure?" There is no dodge, before an action like this can even be considered one should know who they are worshiping, I know my God well enough to know He would not ask this of Christians. I wouldn't worship a god who would. Don't bother with the Abraham story, I know it better than any atheist here, I've already seen mistakes about both God and Abraham in this thread, there's far more to consider here than just the killing of a child, it's actually so extensive you nor anyone else would read it, I know this because it's been stated in other threads. I feel a little bad looking back now seems I'm the only one who jumped right in to the hypothetical child murdering deal.

The whole proving devotion thing makes little sense when you can tell the future and read minds. I do not like to deal in the hypothetical and want, it's a waste of time and life over something that's made up to distract from reality. That's why God called him righteousGod could just ask for Abraham's trust and faith...or he could ask for a human sacrifice. I wonder which one the biblical god prefers? God cares nothing for child sacrifice, and what's trust and faith without a reason. GC

It's like the "sacrifice" of Jesus thing: all powerful deity needs to sacrifice itself to itself to change its own rules. Playing Cluedo with my mum while I was at Uni: "You did WHAT? With WHO?
