The Muslim needs to believe the Bible and Torah (either it is true or false), otherwise he is not a Muslim, and there are verses that say the Jews and Christians are the Believers. . maybe it is clear signs that there is no religion. They had been raised up in the Jewish faith and culture and had been anticipating the messiah. (June 12, 2014 at 6:56 pm)Lek Wrote:True. Now, if they had only discerned a way to see Christ apart from the man Jesus, then perhaps Christianity would have a useful purpose in the world today - but that's a topic for another thread.(June 12, 2014 at 6:50 pm)ShaMan Wrote: Many, if not most of the early, First Century Christians came from 'Gentile' people who had divergent beliefs and often worshiped various gods. It's not immoral to eat meat, abort a fetus or love someone of the same sex...I think that about covers it
Quote:I was wondering why there are three separate religions when the Jews, Christians, and Muslims claimed to receive the revelations from the same source ? Market share.
We have seen new religions spring up very recently. For instance Sikhism. It's essentially a blend of religions, with it's own uniform (the five "K's" ) thrown in to give it an identity. Created 1699 . And Christianity has changed and evolved even in my own lifetime, in the UK, with influxes of African and other people bringing different ideas. The Christian of today would be incomprehensible to the puritan of Cromwell's time.

And Mormons. Since the 1830s, Joseph Smith's religion has schismed over 100 times, and many of the branches have split again. I don't know (or care) how far afield they all get from the BoM, and even the main office at LDS HQ has modified and updated the bejeebers out of it. I would suspect quite a few of the extant schisms have retained whatever version of the BoM was in use at the time of their split, perhaps with a little editing to enhance their own legitimacy, in their own eyes, of course.
Community of Christ is a 'repackaged' Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints, so I guess you can have an entirely intramural 'schism', so to speak, or reschism, LOL, and not go through the hassle of losing any members.
In any crime - follow the money.
