Why do Christians trust the Bible?

The Holy Spirit legitimizes the bible.

Belief in and submission to Allah puts Muslims before God. Following the five pillars of Islam legitimizes the Koran.

How do you reconcile this?

(October 10, 2014 at 10:53 pm)Drich Wrote: What is being presupposed here?

The part where you believe you're talking to God and that he's telling you what you want to hear. How do you know you're not just having a dopamine rush from convincing yourself you're right? Or do you actually hear the Holy Spirit talk as opposed to experiencing a vague, happy feeling? Everyone who's always described the Holy Spirit always describes it as something vague and not really explainable.

Bullshit. We can totally read the contents of a hard drive, just because we can't see the bits inside the drive by looking at the outside of it with our naked eyes.

You need a better analogy.

Drama Queen,
Wisdom is the beneficial application of knowledge.
But, you may ask- beneficial to whom?
This leads to the distinction between the wisdom of God and the wisdom of this world (system).

The ruler of this world according to the bible is Satan.
My buddy would say, "If it's popular- its' probably false".
Just turn stuff trumpeted by the various propaganda agencies around 180 degrees, or disbelieve anything they say and you begin to leave foolishness.

Actually, they did pretty good. Gullible fools are always ready to attach themselves to whatever stupid shit comes along.

If you can't legitimize holy spirit without the bible and you use the holy spirit to legitimize the bible, then you are guilty of circular reasoning. Which means, neither your bible nor your holy spirit can be regarded as legitimate.

What else you got?

Got an ETA on that? Unless we hear from him, your testimony is regarded as hearsay and thus discarded.

You claim you have a direct line. I don't believe you. Thus, the burden of proof is on you. If you can't prove it, stop making those dumb claims.

Nope - just don't consider them worth the price. Especially when I can get the same things much cheaper elsewhere.

Never said they didn't - but they have it to a much lesser degree than you Christians and they have more of the other qualities. As bargains go, they got the better of it.

Application of critical thinking - a concept foreign to you.

Like I said in the OP: how do you know you can trust that? You were told not to listen to him without ever hearing his side. If one person did that to another, you'd be highly skeptical. If the government said "Don't listen to anything Edward Snowden says. He's lying.", would you believe them?

One-sided accounts of history are the least trustworthy.

Uh huh. There is no more reason to believe that than anyone else's unevidenced apocalyptic claims.

Why are there any Swedenborgians at all?
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

Daddy Swedenborg and mommy Swedenborg loved each other verrrry much...
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
