(unless they were poor, and their lawyer was an employee of the state..at which point nothing surprises me)

Yeah, all they would have had to do was say that it was against their religion and everything would be kosher.

Not always, but I don't recall Connecticut as having made the stand that some other states have made in that regard. Nor would I expect it....of Connecticut.

If the kid wanted an abortion I would support her right. I guess after thinking it over I have to come down on the side that says the state is being a little heavy-handed.

Is this Chemo a cure or a treatment?

If it's just prolonging life but making her ill I can understand the refusal, if it's a cure then she should at least give it a try.

They have a (relatively) high level of confidence that the treatment will be successful. She did give it a try, she doesn't want it.

Whatever her reasons for refusal, her life belongs to her, not the state.

Yes, we are. Attempting suicide, while legal in all fifty states, will (in most cases) get you admitted to a psych eval (72 hour stay in a mental ward) and in many cases, admitted for a longer stay. The wishes of the individual and those closest to them are ignored as the state enforces life on someone who does not want it.

Granted, this can be beneficial in cases of people who would normally wish to continue living but have attempted suicide due to mental condition. However, there is no consideration given to the idea that they may truly be done with living and want to, in their right mind, end their own life.

Hell, suicide by certainly terminal patients cannot be attended by loved ones in most states without the loved ones risking criminal prosecution, and can be assisted (under stringent government guidelines) in only one.

Pretty sure that's not even remotely an accurate assessment of what we are - even if it's an accurate assessment of how many in the state choose to see it.

Our state, here in The States, is a vassal (not that this language is even half appropriate, given the structure of our state) to it's public, and explicitly so.
